The sections listed below contain extracts for the original records, in all cases focusing on the family of Gideon Dyer Cobb (1773-1834). I have attempted to find every record of each type searched for Gideon, his brothers, and his descendants, though no doubt some were missed.
Selected records of some associates are included, as noted more specifically in each section. Further, many other individuals are mentioned when they were part of transactions involving the Cobbs, but the records for those individuals are by no means complete.
Many names are spelled as best I could discern them from the original records, and in many cases are no doubt in error. I have scanned images of all of the records listed, and would be happy to consult them, or furnish copies, to clarify any questions.
County Courts in early Kentucky served functions today the responsibility of multiple governmental bodies; they were essentially the whole of county government. They were responsible for functions today generally the purview of County Commissioners or Supervisors - setting tax rates and collecting taxes, establishing and maintaining roads and public buildings, and licensing taverns and ferries. They also had judicial functions, including the probating of wills and estates, and hearing appeals to decisions of magistrates. Members of the Court were Justices of the Peace, appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth. The Order Books record the proceedings of the Court.

Mortgages were taken for a variety of reasons, often to obtain an advance payment on a crop not yet ready for harvest, or to secure accounts due with merchants. While some mortgages were secured with land, in many cases crops and household good were mortgaged in addition to or instead of land. Thus these mortgages serve as an inventory of the goods typically owned by the people of this time and place.

Lists of those owning property subject to taxation were made annually. They list the names of the owners, and the land, slaves, and other taxable property.

The Federal Bankruptcy Act of 1867 provided uniform procedures for handling personal bankruptcy filings. Several of the Cobbs took advantage of that act, including the following:
