Mary Dean Adamson1,2,3

ID# 15472, (1867 - 1955)

Parents:

FatherGeorge Warner Adamson (19 Dec 1824 - 23 Mar 1901)
MotherMary Louise Dean (7 May 1836 - 4 Jan 1875)

Key Events:

Birth: 17 Jan 1867, Caldwell Co., Kentucky,4,5,6,7
Marriage: 28 Aug 1895, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, Giles Akin Cobb (b. 15 Mar 1857, d. 7 Aug 1923)8,9,10
Death: 9 Jul 1955, Crider, Caldwell Co., Kentucky,11,12
Burial: Carmen Cemetery, Carmen, Alfalfa Co., Oklahoma,13,14

Narrative:

Mary Dean Adamson was born on 17 Jan 1867 in Caldwell Co., KentuckyG.4,5,6,7
She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Fredonia, Caldwell Co., KentuckyG, in the household of her parents, George Warner Adamson and Mary Louise Dean.15
Her mother died on 4 Jan 1875, when Mary was 7 years old.16 Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Fredonia, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, G in the household of her father, George Warner Adamson.17
Mary married Giles Akin Cobb, son of Thomas Jefferson Cobb and Almeda Glenn, on 28 Aug 1895 in Caldwell Co., KentuckyG, at her father's home.8,9,10
Mary and Giles appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Kentucky G, enumerated 20 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its farm, free of mortgage. His children by his previous marriage, Lucille, Mary, and William, were listed as living with them, as were Charles and Fanny Crider, listed as a hired hand and servant, respectively, Thomas Pallard, a servant at age 6, and Eugene Crider, another hired hand. Apparently his brother Jefferson and his family lived nearby, as they are listed as the preceding household.18
Mary and Giles moved to Carmen, OklahomaG, on 9 Apr 1905.19 They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Carmen, Alfalfa Co., Oklahoma G, at Fifteen St., enumerated 19 Apr 1910, reporting that the family owned its home, free of mortgage. His daughters by his prior marriage, Lucille and Mary, were listed as living with them.20
William Wallace Cobb, son of Giles' son William Francis, came to live with Mary and Giles at the age of three months, after the death of his mother. The child's father was working on a railroad, which required him to travel around Oklahoma, and he could not care for the infant. When the father remarried in 1914, Mary wanted to keep the baby and apparently the father and his new wife agreed to that, so the child was raised by his grandparents.21,22
Mary and Giles moved to San Antonio, TexasG, for a time around 1920, but apparently returned to Carmen shortly afterwards.23 They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, at 815 Ave. D G, enumerated 3 Jan 1920, reporting that they rented their home, apparently a unit in a four-family building. Their grandson, William, was listed as living with them.24
Her husband died on 7 Aug 1923 in Pawnee, OklahomaG.25,26,27
Mary and her grandson William moved to Crider, KentuckyG, in Aug 1923.28 Nether Mary or William have been found in the 1930 census, but it appears he continued to live in various counties in western Kentucky. While she was not listed with him and his family in the 1940 census, and has not been found elsewhere, it seems she did live with him in Benton, Marshall Co.G, after that.29,30
Mary died on 9 Jul 1955 in Crider, Caldwell Co., KentuckyG, at age 88.11,12 She was buried in Carmen Cemetery, Carmen, Alfalfa Co., OklahomaG, with her husband.13,14

Children:
There were no children with Giles Akin Cobb

There is room to question whether Ruth was actually the daughter of David and Mary. She is listed as such in the 1900 census, her husband shows Mary as his mother-in-law in the 1920 census, and her death certificate, with her husband as informant, shows Mary Glenn as her mother with father unknown. But she was born some 20 years after David and Mary's two sons, and is shown as daughter of their son Hugh in the 1910 census. It seems quite possible Ruth was actually his daughter, born before his marriage.19,20,21,22
