Narrative:

Robert James Cooper was born on 10 Dec 1822 in VirginiaG.5,6,7
     Robert moved to KentuckyG before 1850. He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Christian Co., KentuckyG, enumerated 9 Aug 1850, in the household of Dr. C. B. Hall and his family, apparently a border there with two others. He was listed as owning one male slave, age 25.11,12
     He was a wagon maker in 1850.11
     Robert married Lucy Ann Ragdale, daughter of William J. Ragdale and Emily J. Tillotson, on 12 Dec 1860 in Trigg Co., KentuckyG, at her mother's home, with S. B. White officiating.8,9
     Robert and Lucy appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Lafayette, Christian Co., KentuckyG, enumerated 5 Sep 1870, reporting real estate valued at $1,000 and personal estate of $10,000. Their children Emma, Robert, William, and James were listed as living with them, as were Emily Ragedale, age 19 and apparently a relative of hers, William Culverhouse, a store clerk, Sallie Deam, age 25 and Laura Deam, age 2, and Eliza J., a servant.4
     He was a dry goods merchant by 1870.4,13
     Robert and Lucy appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Christian Co., Kentucky G, enumerated 7 Jun 1880. Their children Emma, Robert, William, and James were listed as living with them, as was his brother Emmet.13
     Robert died on 23 Jun 1896 at age 73.5 He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Hopkinsville, Christian Co., KentuckyG.10

Lucy Ann Ragdale was born on 27 Oct 1837 in TennesseeG.4,5,6
     She was probably one of the two females under age 5 listed in the household of her father, William J. Ragdale, in the 1840 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., TennesseeG.13
     She moved to KentuckyG with her parents about 1850.14 She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Trigg Co., KentuckyG, in the household of her parents, William J. Ragdale and Emily J. Tillotson.5
     Her father died on 27 Mar 1853, when Lucy was 15 years old.15 She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Trigg Co., KentuckyG, in the household of her mother, Emily J. Tillotson.16
     Lucy married Robert James Cooper on 12 Dec 1860 in Trigg Co., KentuckyG, at her mother's home, with S. B. White officiating.7,8

Ellen Mishew Crudup was born on 21 Jul 1877 in North CarolinaG.4,5,6
     She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Kitteill, Granville Co., North Carolina, G in the household of her parents, John Boddie Crudup and Ellen Meshew McNeill.10
     Ellen was named an heir in the will of her father, dated 22 Sep 1896. She was to receive, at the death of their mother, half of their father's lands, to be shared with her brother Thomas.11
     She attended Greensboro College, and then Peace Institute, RaleighG.12
     Ellen appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Kittrell Twp., Vance Co., North Carolina, G in the household of Thomas Henry Crudup, her brother.13
     Ellen married Dr. James Rufus Rogers, son of Rev. James W. F. Rogers and Mary Ann Dennis, on 3 Dec 1902 in Kittrell, Vance Co., North CarolinaG, with Rev. Hubbard officiating.7,8,9
