     Nathan Henry Kuhlman was born on 11 Dec 1842 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.8,9,10
     His mother died in 1844 or 1845, when Nathan was about 3 years old.22,23
     He moved about 1844 to Wooster, Ohio, with his father, and perhaps with his mother, though it seems more likely she had died in Pennsylvania.24
     He moved to Warren Twp., Huntington Co., Indiana, with his father in 1845.25,26,27,28 He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Huntington Co., Indiana, in the household of his father, Ernst Heinrich Kuhlman.29
     Nathan appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, in the household of his brother William and his wife, Maria Heinricke Dorothe Gleich.30
     Nathan enlisted 15 Oct 1861 as a private in Co. F, 47th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged 15 Dec 1863, but re-enlisted the next day with the same company. According to local lore he took part in 25 battles.31,32,33
     Nathan registered for the draft for the Civil War, appearing on the register dated in Jul 1863, while living in Huntington Co., Indiana.34
     Nathan married first Mary C. Glick on 22 Nov 1868 in Huntington Co., Indiana, with Rev. J. G Rose officiating.11,12,13
     Nathan and Mary appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 29 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $1,500 and personal estate of $150. Their son Jacob was listed as living with them, as were his sister Elizabeth and Emma and Elizabeth Kuhlman and Emma Hartwig, daughter of his late sister Sophie.35
     Nathan and Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 18 Jun 1880. Their children Jacob, Jesse, Edward and Daisy were listed as living with them.36
     His wife died on 2 Aug 1880 in Huntington, Indiana, of consumption (tuberculosis.)37,38,39 Their two eldest sons would die from the same disease shortly after reaching their 20th birthdays.40
     Nathan married second Alice J. Yarger, daughter of Jacob Yarger and Mary Keller, on 17 Nov 1881 in Huntington Co., Indiana, with Rev. H. L. Nave officiating.14
     Nathan and Alice were divorced in Jun 1884 in Huntington Co., Indiana. She filed for divorce, and he filed a cross complaint, which was granted.15
     Nathan married third Martha J. Crawford on 3 Dec 1885 in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana, with W. C. Davy officating.16,17,18
     He was a plasterer apprentice in 1860, a plasterer by 1870, and retired by 1900.41,42,43,44
     Nathan applied for an invalid's pension 4 Jan 1887 based on his service in Civil War. His pension was approved in 1889, with the assistance of his Congressman.45,46
     Nathan and Martha appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 46 Williams St., enumerated 2 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. His son Jesse was listed as living with him.47 His sister Anne, who had purchased a part of his lot and had a home built, was listed as the next household.48
     Nathan and Martha appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 530 William St., enumerated 15 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. His grandchildren, Donald and Mary Elizabeth Jackson, children of his daughter Daisy, were listed as living with them.49
     Nathan and Martha appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 530 William St., enumerated 12 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage.50
     Nathan died on 11 Dec 1924 in 530 William St., Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at age 82.3,19 He was buried on 13 Dec 1924 in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana.3,20,21
