Narrative:

Linah Mims Jr. was born on 31 Jan 1876 in TexasG.4,5,6 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Cass Co., Texas, G in the household of his parents, Linah C. Mims and Susan Elizabeth Howe.2
     He moved with his parents to Moore Co.G, in the northwest corner of the Texas Panhandle, in May 1892.10,11 Linah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Hartley Co., Texas G, enumerated 1900, listed as a laborer (cook), along with eight other ranch hands, on ranch on which Eli J. Moore was foreman. It was apparently fairly close to the ranch where his brother Robert was working, as the workers there were listed as the sixth following "household.".12
     Linah married first Georgia about 1902.7
     Linah moved to California by 1904, when he was living in Los Angeles, boarding at 401 E. 39th St. G.13 By the next year he was living at 3708 Adair St.G.14 By 1908 he had moved to 2725 E. Main St.G.15
     He was a carpenter after he moved to California, and remained in that trade for most of the rest of his life.16,17
     Linah and Georgia appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 3779 San Julian St. G, enumerated 27 Apr 1910, reporting they were renting their home.18
     His wife died on 3 Dec 1911 in Los Angeles Co., CaliforniaG.19
     Linah moved to 530 E. JeffersonG by 1912.20 By the next year he was living in the rear of 3855 Woodlawn Ave.G.21
     He taken up shoe repair by 1916. He then was a salesman in the automobile business for a few years, before returning to carpentry by 1930.22,23,24
     Linah registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living in 1223 S. Main St., Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CaliforniaG, reporting he was employed as a salesman by Auto Exhust and Supply Co., 1130 S. Main St., Los Angeles.1
     Linah appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 118 East 15th St. G, enumerated 14 Jan 1920, lodging, with one other man, in the home of Samuel Kirshehbaum, a Polish taylor, and his wife.25
     Linah married second Theresa Jane about 1924.8
     Linah and Theresa appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 1553 W. 60 place G, enumerated 2 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $6,000 and owned a radio.26
     Linah died on 18 Jan 1933 in Los Angeles Co., CaliforniaG, at age 56.9

     Elizabeth and John appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Six Mile Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 6 Jul 1880. Their daughter Emma and Sagie and his children Oscar by his prior marriage were listed as living with them.11
     Her husband died on 12 Mar 1888.12,13
     Elizabeth appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Six Mile Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas G, in the household of her daughter Sagie and her husband, John Fletcher Wilson.14
     Elizabeth applied for a pension based on her husband's Civil War service on 6 Feb 1909 accompanied by affidavits from his brothers Linah and Davis. Her application was initially rejected, on 16 Aug 1909, for lack of proof of indigency. A supplemental affidavit by two acquaintances filed 23 Apr 1910 stated she did not own property exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and clothing) and had no other income exceeding $150 per year. A pension of $50 was approved 13 Aug 1910.15
     Elizabeth appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Ratcliff, Logan Co., Arkansas G, in the household of her daughter and her husband.16
     Elizabeth appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Ratcliff, Logan Co., Arkansas G, in the household of Omer McCaslin and Edith Lillian Wilson, her granddaughter and her husband.17
     Elizabeth appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Six Mile Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting that she owned home valued at $800, and owned a radio. Her daughter Emma and her husband, James M. Coogan, were listed as renting their home in the same dwelling.18
     She filed a questionnaire to continue here pension on 18 Feb 1932, stating she was then living at Ratcliff, ArkansasG, with her daughter Emma. She stated that she owned only a dower in her home place, valued at $400, and had no other income.19
     Elizabeth died on 1 Jun 1938 in Logan Co., ArkansasG, at age 83.8,9,6 She was buried in Caulksville Cemetery, Caulksville, Logan Co., ArkansasG.10
Research Note, 20 Nov 2014:

One source and several un-sourced online trees show her name as Elizabeth Arbuckle, which seems possible since her daughter's middle name was Arbuckle, but no documentation of that has been offered. Further no record can be found of any Arbuckle family in Marion Co., Alabama, where she said she had been born. Other online trees show her maiden name as Smith, again with no documentation.3,20

Narrative:

Oscar Christopher Mims was born on 23 Jan 1869 during the family's move from Texas to Arkansas, according to one family tradition in the cattle yards outside Ft. Smith, ArkansasG.4,5,6 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Ozark, Franklin Co., ArkansasG, in the household of his parents, John M. Mims and Margaret Makinro Warren.12
     His mother died on 29 Dec 1873, when Oscar was 4 years old.13,14 After his mother died Oscar was sent to live with her mother's brother, Marcus Warren. He lived with them until he was about 9 years old. Apparently he did not see his father, John Mims, often. According to family stories, when he was sent back to his father he ran away several times and ended up with the Warrens.15
     He did appear on the 1880 Federal Census of Six Mile Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas, G in the household of his father, John M. Mims, and stepmother, Elizabeth.16
     Oscar married Cora Electra Lafferry, daughter of John W. Lafferry and Emma P. Baily, on 1 Apr 1900 in Logan Co., ArkansasG, with W. B. Ritchie, justice of the peace, officiating.7,8
     Oscar and Cora appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Six Mile Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 1 Jun 1900, reporting they were renting their farm.17
     Oscar and Electra appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Clark Twp., Logan Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 10 Apr 1910. Their children Omar, John, Lester, Ocie, and Oscar were listed as living with them.18
     Oscar and Electra appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Charleston, Franklin Co., Arkansas, at Branch Rd. G, enumerated 3 Jan 1920, reporting they were renting their home. Their children John, Lester, Ocie, Oscar, Ola, Austin, Mary, and Mitzie were listed as living with them.19
     Oscar and Electra appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Charleston, Franklin Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 3 Apr 1930, reporting that they owned a home valued at $1,500 but did not own a radio. Their children Ocie, Ola, Austin, Mary, and Mitzie were listed as living with them.20
     Oscar and Electra appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Charleston, Franklin Co., Arkansas G, enumerated 6 Apr 1940, reporting they were renting their home for $4 per month, and had lived in the same house in 1935.21
     He was a farmer, on a rented farm, in 1900. He was a hired manager on a farm in 1910. By 1920 he had become a drug salesman. By 1930 he was a laborer, doing odd jobs. In 1940 he was not working and not looking for work, but his wife was then working for the WPA.22,23,24,25,21
     His wife died on 11 Feb 1943 in Charleston, Franklin Co., ArkansasG.9,26
     Oscar died on 11 Jun 1944 in Charleston, Franklin Co., ArkansasG, at age 75.9,10,6 He was buried in Forest Park Cemetery, Ft. Smith, Sebastian Co., ArkansasG.11

     Melcajah was named an heir in the will of Adam Toot, his father, dated 12 Nov 1835, to receive an equal share of his father's estate after gifts and support to his two youngest siblings and deducting $2,340 previously advanced to him. He was also named one of three exectors, along with his brothers-in-law Isham H. Britton and Robertson Owen Jr.13
     Melcajah purchased farm tools, kitchen goods, and a silver watch totaling $21 at the sale of his father's estate on 5 Nov 1839.14

     Melcajah received a distribution of $281 from his father's estate on 24 Jul 1842.16
     Melcajah and Mariah appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 3 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $1600. Their children William, Charles, Sallie, Melcajah, John, James, and Maria were listed as living with them, as was his sister, Amanda, and her son, William E. Bouldin, and William S. Arnett, age 9. There were 15 slaves listed as well.17,18 His cousin, Elizabeth Ann Flora, and her husband and their family were apparently living close by as they were listed as the second following household in the census record.19
     Melcajah and Mariah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 11 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $5000 and personal estate of $7150. Their children Melcajah, James, and Maria were listed as living with them, as was his sister, Amanda, and her son, William E. Bouldin. There were 13 slaves listed as well.20,21 His cousin, Elizabeth Ann Flora, and her husband and their family were apparently still living close by as they were listed as the seventh following household in the census record. In addition, her sister Harriett also was by then living close by, being listed as the second next household.22
     Melcajah was a planter. In 1860 he reported his farm contained 265 acres of improved land and 100 acres un-improved, valued at $5,000. He reported 5 horses, 8 milch cows, 2 working oxen, 7 other cattle, 13 sheep, and 30 swine, valued at $966. In the year ending June 1 the farm produced 200 bushels of wheat, 350 of Indian corn, 360 of oats, 6,500 lb. of tobacco, 39 lb. of wool, 20 bushels of Irish potatoes, 200 of sweet potatoes, 50 lb. of butter and $100 worth of home manufactures. He reported $136 worth of animals were slaughtered.23,24,25
     Melcajah died on 26 Nov 1862 at age 60.10,11 He was buried in St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Halifax, VirginiaG.11

     Mary married Isham H. Britton on 10 Feb 1823 in Halifax Co., VirginiaG.7,8
     She was probably the female age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her husband in the 1830 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG.11
     Mary was named an heir in the will of Adam Toot, her father, dated 12 Nov 1835, to receive an equal share of her father's estate after gifts and support to her two youngest siblings and deducting $360 previously advanced to her.12
     She was probably the female age 30 to 40 listed in the household of her husband in the 1840 Federal Census of North District, Halifax Co., VirginiaG.13
     Mary received a distribution of $280 from her father's estate, paid to her husband.14
     Mary and Isham appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 8 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $14,000. Their children William, Sarah, John, Andrew, Lucy, Mary, Peyton, Frances, and Melcajas were listed as living with them, as was William Rice, age 55. There were 46 slaves listed as well.15,16
     Her husband died about 1852.17,18
     She was a farmer by 1860, apparently having taken on responsibility for the plantation after her husband's death.19,20
     Mary appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 29 Aug 1860, reporting real estate valued at $35,000 and personal estate of $11,951. Her children Lucy, Mary, Frances, and Melcajas were listed as living with her, as was her newly married son Andrew and his wife Elizabeth Jane Buster. She is listed as the owner of 13 slaves, and the employer of six slaves owned by daughter Lucy, five owned by Mary, two owned by Frances, two owned by Melcajah, and three owned by Andrew.21,22
     Mary appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 13 Sep 1870, reporting real estate valued at $10,000 and personal estate of $800. Her children Lucy and Mary were listed as living with her. Her son Melcajas was apparently livng close by as he was listed as the next household.23
     Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 5 Jun 1880. Her children Lucy and Mary were listed as living with her, as was her married daughter Frances and her sons Frederick and William.24
     Mary died on 4 Jun 1893 in Halifax Co., VirginiaG, at age 89.9 She was buried in Britton Family Cemetery, Halifax Co., VirginiaG.10
