     William Joseph H. Brose was born on 9 Oct 1844 in Hamilton Co., Ohio.8,9,10
     His mother died in Jul 1849, when William was 4 years old.17 He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Storrs Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, in the household of his father, Christian Heinrich Wilhelm Brase.18
     He moved to Brown Co., Ohio, with his father and stepmother before 1860. He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, in the household of his father and stepmother, Anna Maria Louise Catherine Beinkämper.19 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, in the household of his father and stepmother.20
     He was working on a farm, presumably the family farm, in 1870.21
     William married Edna Caroline Shaffer, daughter of Isaac Shaffer and Matilda Shafer, on 8 Jul 1871 in Highland Co., Ohio, with Isaac Shafer, justice of the peace, officiating.11,12,13
