     He generally used his middle name, Wilhelm, or after immigrating, the American version William, though in some records his full name was still used.1,14,15

     Christian arrived in New York City, New York, on 21 Aug 1839, aboard the brig Estafette, having sailed from Bremen. He stated his destination was Cincinnati, and he had come from Rahleted, or Ratleted, a place that has not been identified.16,17
     Christian married first Anna Maria Elisabeth Louise Wiemann, daughter of Maximilian Friderich Wiemann and Anna Maria Margaretha Elisabeth Lüke, on 2 Nov 1843 in Hamilton Co., Ohio, with Rev. Henry Sachse officiating.7,8,9
     He was listed as a farmer when he arrived in the United States, but was a teamster by 1850.18,19
     His wife died in Jul 1849 in Storrs Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio.20
     Christian appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Storrs Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 9 Sep 1850. His children William and Frederick were listed as living with him, as was his late wife's mother, and Henry Meyer, a laborer. They were apparently living close to his wife's brother Joseph and his young family, as they were listed as the preceding household.21
     Christian married second Anna Maria Louise Catherine Beinkämper, daughter of Johann Henrich Beinkämper and Anna Maria Schürmeyer, on 2 Oct 1850 in St. Martin German Evangelical Church, Storrs Twp., Ohio.10,11,12
     He adopted the Brose spelling of his surname by 1860, which was used by his descendants.22,23,15

     Christian and Louise moved to Brown Co., Ohio, before 1860. They appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, enumerated 16 Jul 1860, reporting real estate valued at $800 and personal estate of $300. Their children Christian and Wilhelmine and his children by his prior marriage, William and Frederick, were listed as living with them.22

     He was a farmer in Brown Co.24,25,26 He reported in 1860 that his farm included 25 acres of improved land and 17 acres unimproved, and was valued at $800, with another $90 worth of implements. He reported that he had 3 horses, 2 milch cows, 2 other cattle, and 8 swine, all valued at $300. He had produced over the prior year 40 bushels of wheat and 200 of corn.27
     He reported in 1870 that his farm included 35 acres of improved land and 17 acres of woodland, and was valued at $1,500, with another $25 worth of implements. He reported that he had 3 horses, 3 milch cows, 1 other cattle, and 6 swine, all valued at $400. He had produced over the prior year 30 bushels of winter wheat, 15 of rye, 50 of corn, 11 of oats, and 40 lb. of potatoes. He had produced 200 of butter, 4 tons of hay, 5 gallons of molasses, and slaughtered $20 worth of animals. The total value of produce was $220.28
     He reported in 1880 that he owed his farm, which included 38 acres of improved land, one acre of meadow, and 12 acres of woodland, and was valued at $1,000, with another $40 worth of implements and $200 worth of livestock. He reported that he had 4 horses, 1 milch cow, 4 other cattle, with 2 calves dropped the prior year, and 1 cow sold live. He had 3 sheep, which had produced 18 lb. of wool, 9 swine, 44 barnyard poultry and 3 other poultry, which had produced 150 dozen eggs. The prior year he had 16 acres of corn that produced 410 bushels, 3 acres of oats produced 75 bushels, 4 acres of wheat produced 28 bushels, 3 acre of potatoes produced 160 bushels, and 1 acre with 70 apple trees produced 110 bushels worth $20. He had cut 20 cords of wood, worth $20.29
     Christian filed a declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States 15 Nov 1865, in Brown Co., Ohio, probate court. He said he was a native of Hanover, and intended to renounce his alleiance to the King of Hanover. Under the law at the time he had to wait two years before applying for citizenship.30 He was naturalized on 28 Oct 1868 in Brown Co., Ohio.31
     Christian and Louise appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, enumerated 5 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $1,700 and personal estate of $450. Their children Christian and Wilhelmine were listed as living with them as were his children William and Frederick.23
     Christian and Louise appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, enumerated 17 Jun 1880. Their children Christian and Wilhelmine were listed as living with them.3

     Christian left a will dated 27 Aug 1885, in which he named his son Christian Henry as executor. He left all his stock, household goods and provisions to his wife. He also left his farm of 51½ acres in Pike Twp. to her for her lilfetime. At her death, it was to go equally to his son Christian and daughter Wilhelmine. They were to pay $50 cash to his son William and $250 to his son Frederick.32
     Christian died on 31 Dec 1885 in Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio.13
     His widow died on 2 Jan 1886 in Pike Twp., Brown Co., Ohio.33
     His will was probated on 8 Jan 1886 in Georgetown, Brown Co., Ohio. His son Christian was named executor as specified in the will, and posted a $400 bond.32,34 Christian was issued letters of administration the same day for the estate of his mother, who had died intestate (without leaving a will). He posted a $400 bond in that matter as well.35 Christian filed his resignation as executor of his father's estate and administrator of his mother's, and the final account of each estate, on 13 Jan 1886. The final accounts were accepted 5 Apr 1886, but they have not been found.36
