Narrative:

     Martha M. Cobb was born on 1 Oct 1822 in Decatur Co., Indiana.6,7,8
     She was probably the female age 5 to 10 listed in the household of her father, Joshua Cobb, in the 1830 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.13 She was probably the female age 15 to 20 listed in the household of her father in the 1840 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.14
     Martha married James B. Terhune on 7 Dec 1843 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Rev. James Blair Elder, Methodist minister, offciating.9,10
     Martha and James appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Marion Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 25 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $2,000. Their children Phillip, Elkanah, Anna and Elizabeth were listed as living with them, as were her parents, and 14 year-old Elizabeth F. Richards.15
     Martha and James moved to Illinois about 1858.16 They appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of St. Marie, Jasper Co., Illinois, reporting real estate valued at $3,500 and personal estate of $800. Their children Phillip, Elkanah, Anna, Elizabeth, Joshua, Sarah, Mariah and Nancy were listed as living with them.17
     Martha was no doubt the female age 40 to 50 who was listed in the household of James in the 1865 state census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois.18
     Martha and James appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois, enumerated 22 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $5,200 and personal estate of $1,000. Their children Elkanah, Joshua, Sarah, Mariah, Nancy, Sophronia and Mary were listed as living with them.19
     Martha and James returned to Indiana between 1870 and 1880.20 They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Indiana, enumerated 9 Jun 1880. Their children Nancy, Sophronia and Mary were listed as living with them, as was Thomas Bruner, age 17, a gardener listed as a servant, but was more likely an assistant to James.20
     Her husband died on 23 May 1893 in Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois.21,22
     Martha appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, in the household of her daughter Nancy and her husband, Charles P. Watts.23
     Martha died on 2 Aug 1901 at age 78.11 She was buried in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., Illinois.12
