     He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Clay City, Clay Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Joseph M. Watts and Lovina West.4
     Charles married Nancy Alice Terhune, daughter of James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb, on 2 Sep 1888 in Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois.10,11,12
     He was a brick mason, like his father.17,18,19,20,21
     Charles and Nancy appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home. Her mother was listed as living with them.3
     Charles and Nancy appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, on Decator St., enumerated 20 Apr 1910, reporting that the couple owned their home. Her nephew Charles Dorsy Bruner and his sister Lella were listed as living with them.22
     Charles and Nancy seen to have adopted Charles Dorsy Bruner between 1910 and 1920. He was the son of Arthur J. Bruner, who was son of her sister Elizabeth, and his wife Luna Swope. The boy's mother had died in 1901, and while his father was still living, he was shown in the 1920 census as Charles' son, and Charles' obituary lists the boy as his adopted son.23,24,25
     Charles and Nancy appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, on Decator St., enumerated 13 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home. Their adopted son Charles was listed as living with them.26
     Charles and Nancy appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, at 425 Decator St., enumerated 14 Apr 1930, reporting that they owned a home valued at $2000, and did not own a radio.27
     Charles died on 15 Apr 1936, at his home, Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, at age 74.13,14 He was buried on 17 Apr 1936 in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., Illinois.15,16
