Narrative:

     Phillip A. Terhune was born in Dec 1844 in Indiana.7,8,9
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Marion Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents, James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb.15
     He moved to Illinois with his parents about 1858.16 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of St. Marie, Jasper Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents.17 Phillip was probably the male age 20 to 30 listed in the household of his father on the 1865 State Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois.18
     He lived at home and worked on the family farm until he was 27 years old.6 He has not been found in the 1870 census. He is not listed with his family though he was supposedly living at home then.19
     Phillip married Cyrena Lee Deams, daughter of David Nelson Deams and Susanna Thurston, on 11 Jan 1872 in Jasper Co., Illinois, with Rev. L. W. P. Gilbert offciating.10,11,12
     Phillip and his brother Elkanah bought John Watt's stock of goods, which they sold later to their younger brother Joshua.6 Phillip was appointed postmaster of Willow Hill 10 Feb 1873, and was replaced 30 Sep of the same year.20
     Phillip then farmed for about a year, before buying a $525 stock of goods at Newton, Illinois. He moved there and his business prospered, until his stock had grown to $4,000 by 1884.21,22,23
     Phillip and Cyrena appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of New Liberty, Jasper Co., Illinois, enumerated 21 Jun 1880. Their children Guy and James were listed as living with them.24
     Phillip did keep a small farm in Willow Hill Twp. In the 1880 census he reported he owned a farm valued at $800, with $75 worth of livestock. It had produced products worth $100 the prior year, and he had spent $40 building or repairing fences that year. He had 25 acres of tilled land and 15 acres in meadows or pastures. His livestock included one milk cow, two other cows, and one swine. Twenty poultry had produced 75 dozen eggs the prior year. He had 14 acres of Indian corn yielding 225 bushels, 3 acres of oats yielding 60 bushels, 5 acres of wheat yielding 14 bushels, and 1/4 acre of potatoes yielding 30 bushels. He had cut 20 cords of wood the prior year, valued at $40.25
     Phillip and Cyrena moved to Edwards Co., Illinois, by 1900. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bone Gap, Edwards Co., Illinois, enumerated 19 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home, which was mortgaged. Their children Winnie and Mayme were listed as living with them.26
     Phillip died on 12 Feb 1905 at age 60.13,14 He was buried in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., Illinois.13
