John Henry Simons was born 26 Nov, probably 1854, though later records show 1853 and 1852, in Pennsylvania.7,8,9,10 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Perry Twp., Snyder Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his parents, Nicholas Simons and Ann [surname unknown].14John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Middlecreek Twp., Snyder Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 16 Aug 1870, He was listed in the household of Harvey Sholly, a farmer holding $5,000 in real estate and $1,500 in personal estate, and his wife and family, identified as a domestic servant.15
John married Mary Catharine Riegel, daughter of Jacob K. Riegel and Christiana Ohl, about 1879.11,12,13
