Narrative:

Anna Maria Catharine Charlotte Rothefeld was born on 6 Apr 1823 in Hilter, Amt Iburg, Königreich Hannover.4,5,6 She was baptized on 13 Apr 1823 in Johannes der Täufer Kirche, Hilter, Königreich Hannover, with Maria Louise Stöppelwerth and Mar. Elisab. Brüne as godparents.1
She arrived in New York, New York, with her parents, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Rothefeld and Catharine Maria Stöppelwerth, on 12 Aug 1840, aboard the brig Grand Turk.16,17
She was probably the female age 15 to 20 listed in the household of her father, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Rothefeld, in the 1840 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.18
She generally used the Americanized version of her middle name, Mary, after she arrived in the United States, except on the the most formal records.19,20,21
Anna married Friedrich Wiemann, son of Maximilian Friderich Wiemann and Anna Maria Margaretha Elisabeth Lüken, on 31 Aug 1843 in North German Lutheran Church, Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, with Rev. William Seib officiating.7,8,9
Anna and Friedrich appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 6 Sep 1850. Their son John was listed as living with them.22
Anna and Friedrich appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 12 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $2000. Their children John, Wilhelmina, George and Elizabeth were listed as living with them.23
Anna and Friedrich appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, enumerated 7 Jul 1870, reporting real estate of $5000 and personal estate of $800. Their children Wilhelmina, George, Elizabeth, Amelia and Edward were listed as living with them.24
Anna and Friedrich appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio, at 100 Gest St., enumerated 14 Jun 1880. Their children Elizabeth, George, and Wilhelmina, were listed as living with them, as was Wihelmina's daughter, Cora Marie Snyder.25
Anna Maria Catharine Charlotte Rothefeld and Henrich Friedrich Wiemann were charter members of the old German Lutheran Church on Walnut St., between 8th and 9th Sts. It was later moved to Scioto and Calhoun St.26
Anna died on 8 Jun 1891 at age 68.10,11,12 She was buried on 11 Jun 1891 in German Protestant Cemetery, Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio, in the family plot owned by her husband Fred and his brother Henry.13,14,15

Other Children Died Young
Anna and Henrich clearly had more children than have been identified. By one family account, there were a total of eleven, six of whom died in childhood. Cemetery records for the lot owned by Frederich and his brother Henry, list eight children who died young, but whose parents are not identified. They are:
     J. H., d. 24 Oct 1845
     F. H., b. circa 1845, d. 19 Aug 1846
     Friederich, b. circa 1847, d. 1849
     Heinrich, b. circa Jan 1848, d. Feb 1849
     Friederich, b. circa Feb 1849, d. Mar 1850
     Anna, b. circa Nov 1856, d. 23 Feb 1858
     Friederich H., b. circa 14 Jul 1863, d. 5 May 1865
     Johann H. E., d. 31 Mar, year not shown, age 6 yr 8 day.27,28

Children:
     Children with Henrich Friedrich Wiemann

Edward appears only in the 1870 census, which does not state relationships, and not in 1880, when he would have been 14, nor has he been found in later records. He's not listed with their other children in Louise Fenker's account, which suggests either he was not their child, or he didn't survive. He does not appear in the family plot at Walnut Hills Cemetery with the other children who died young unless he was the Johann H. E. who died 31 Mar in an un-recorded year between 1858 and 1879, at age 6 years 8 days.41,42,26,43

  18. [S765] Johann Heinr. Rodefels household, 1840 U.S. Census, Hamilton Co., Ohio, his name and the number and ages of the members strongly suggest this is his household. Since the official effective date of this census was 1 Jun 1840, they should not have been included since we believe they immigrated in Aug 1840. However, the 1840 census was supposed to be completed in nine months, but widespread delays required legislation to extend the interval to 18 months. These delays, and the likelihood that Charles Cist, the enumerator, did not speak German, make it likely that the family was included even though they arrived after the official date.
