     Catharine and Johann arrived in New York, New York, on 12 Aug 1840, with their children Johann, Anna, Johann and Wilhelmine, aboard the brig Grand Turk.8,9
     She was probably the female age 40 to 50 listed in the household of her husband, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Rothefeld, in the 1840 Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.10
     Catharine and Johann appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Ray Twp., Franklin Co., Indiana, in the household of their daughter Wilhelmine and her husband, Frederick William Belter.11
     Catharine apparently died before 1860, as she is not found with her husband in the 1860 census.7

Since the official effective date of this census was 1 Jun 1840, they should not have been included since we believe they immigrated in Aug 1840. However, the 1840 census was supposed to be completed in nine months, but widespread delays required legislation to extend the interval to 18 months. These delays, and the likelihood that Charles Cist, the enumerator, did not speak German, make it likely that the family was included even though they arrived after the official date.
