Narrative:

Anne Marie Engel Kuhlmann was born on 13 Jul 1824 in Brockum, Kingdom of HanoverG.4,5,6 She was baptized on 18 Jul 1824 in Evangelische Lutherische Kirche, Brockum, Kingdom of HanoverG, with Marie Louise Kuhlmann, her maternal grandmother, Catharine Engel Haverkamp, and Margrethe Engel Becker as godparents.1
     Anne crossed the Atlantic with an aunt about 1833, and joined her parents, who had settled in Allentown, PennsylvaniaG.12,13
     She moved to Bethlehem, PennsylvaniaG, with her parents after a short time.14
     Her mother died 1844 or 1845, when Anne was about 20 years old.15,16
     She moved about 1844 to Wooster, OhioG, with her father, and perhaps with her mother, though it seems more likely she had died in Pennsylvania.17
     She moved to Warren Twp., Huntington Co., IndianaG, with her father in 1845.18,19,20,21
     Anne married Joachim Fernandez on 14 Nov 1846 in Huntington Co., IndianaG, with John Attman, justice of the peace, officiating.7,8,9
     Anne and Joachim appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG, enumerated 3 Sep 1850, in the household of Benjamin Orton, a merchant, and his family. Joachim reported owning real estate valued at $1,320. Her sister Elizabeth was also listed in the household.22
     Anne and Joachim appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG, enumerated 4 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $5,300 and personal estate of $1,000.23
     Anne and Joachim appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG, enumerated 21 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $3,000 and personal estate of $8,000. Edward McCarty, age 3, was also listed as living with them. His parents and their seven older children were apparently living close by as they were listed as the second preceding household.24
     Anne and Joachim appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, on East Market St. G, enumerated 4 Jun 1880.25
     Anne and Joachim moved to a farm just north of town after he sold his store.11
     Anne was named an heir in the will of her husband dated 1 Jul 1892 in Huntington Co., IndianaG, to receive all his personal property, and the south half of the farm where they lived.26
     Her husband died on 10 Jul 1892 in Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG.27
      After her husband's death, Anne returned to the city, moving to Jacob Neuer's house on South Bryon St.G in Jul 1892, where she lived with her sister Elizabeth for a time.28,29,30
     She purchased a portion of the lot owned by her brother Nathan where she had a small residence built.11 She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 48 Williams St. G, enumerated 2 Jun 1900, reporting she owned her home. She was listed as the next household after her brother Nathan and his family.31
     She lived there until the fall of 1907, when she was stricken with partial paralysis. She then moved to the home of her brother Friedrich.11
     Anne moved to the German Lutheran Old People's Home, Monroe, MichiganG, on 25 May 1908, because of her deteriorating health.11
     Anne died on 28 Mar 1909 in Monroe, MichiganG, at age 84, at the German Lutheran Old People's Home.10 She was buried on 30 Mar 1909 in German Lutheran Old People's Home Cemetery, Monroe, MichiganG.11

Friedrich Heinrich Geltmayer was born on 26 Jul 1829 in Brockum, Kingdom of HanoverG, on the Geltmeyer farm, near.4,5,6 He was baptized on 2 Aug 1829 in Evangelische Lutherische Kirche, Brockum, Kingdom of HanoverG, with Johann Hinrich Engelke, his uncle Fredrich Hinrich Fenncker, and Friedrich Hinrich Schlöke as godparents.15
     He arrived in New YorkG with his parents, Ernst Heinrich Kuhlmann and Elisabeth Fenncker, on 7 Jul 1832, aboard the brig Charlotte Louise, having departed from Bremen, Germany.16,17,18,19 The family settled first in Allentown, PennsylvaniaG.20,21
      In the United States, the family returned to his father's birth surname, Kuhlmann, but he "Americanized" the spelling of both his first name and surname, using the spelling Frederick Kuhlman.3,22,23
     He moved to Bethlehem, PennsylvaniaG, with his parents after a short time.24
     His mother died 1844 or 1845, when Friedrich was about 15 years old.25,26
     He moved about 1844 to Wooster, OhioG, with his father, and perhaps with his mother, though it seems more likely she had died in Pennsylvania.27

     Frederick bought a lot on Guilford St. in 1853, where he built the house where he lived the rest of his life. A sister kept house for him for a time.33
     Frederick was appointed executor of his father's estate, along with Lewis Hitzfield. On 23 Jan 1854 they held a public auction to sell his personal property.34
     Frederick married Varena Long, daughter of Frederick Long and Lina Pfister, on 22 Nov 1857 in Huntington Co., IndianaG, with D. Talapperty, justice of the peace, officiating.7,8,9
     Frederick and Varena appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG, enumerated 4 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $800 and personal estate of $50. Their children William and Mary were listed as living with them, as was Eve A. Kitch, age 12, relationship unknown.35

     Frederick and Varena appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, on North Guilford St. G, enumerated 8 Jun 1880. Their children William, Mary, Emma, Elizabeth, Frederick, Charles, Joseph, Matilda, Anna, and Margaret were listed as living with them.43
     Frederick and Varena appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 116 Guilford G, enumerated 6 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children Elizabeth, Joseph, Matilda, Anna, and Margaret were listed as living with them.44
     On the afternoon of 18 Jun 1900 Frederick was painting the roof of his house on Guilford St.G. As he climbed the ladder with a bucketful of red paint, the ladder broke and he tumbled headfirst into the open doorway of the outside stairway to the cellar. The paint landed on top of him, covering his face, long beard, clothing and hands. Those finding him covered in red were afraid he had suffered fatal injuries, but when the paint was removed and a doctor examined him no broken bones or internal injuries were found.45
     His wife died on 1 May 1905 in 146 North Gulford St., Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG.46,47,48 He served with the Huntington volunteer fire department, and was the oldest surviving member at his death.33
     Frederick appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 1217 Guilford St. G, enumerated 18 Apr 1910, reporting he owned his home, free of mortgage. His children Elizabeth, Joseph, and Anna were listed as living with him.49
     Frederick left a will dated 5 Jul 1918, in which he directed his debts and funeral expenses be paid, and all the rest of his estate be divided equally between his children, William, Emma, Frederick, Elizabeth, Matilda, Anna, Joseph, and Margaret. His son-in law, Horace Kiracofe was named executor.50
     Frederick died on 8 Dec 1918, his residence, 1217 Guilford St., Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG, at age 89.10,11 He was buried on 10 Dec 1918 in St. Peter's Reformed Cemetery, Huntington, Huntington Co., IndianaG.12,13,14

     He was a plasterer, like his father and his brothers.22,23

Hellen Kuhlman was born about 1844 in PennsylvaniaG.3
     Her mother died 1844 or 1845, when Hellen was an infant.7,8
     She moved about 1844 to Wooster, OhioG, with her father, and perhaps with her mother, though it seems more likely she had died in Pennsylvania.9
     She moved to Warren Twp., Huntington Co., IndianaG, with her father in 1845.10,11,12,13 She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Huntington Co., IndianaG, in the household of her father, Ernst Heinrich Kuhlman.14
     Hellen married Charles Friedrich Reifert, son of Johann Gottfried Reifert and Johanne Christiane Hüttner, on 28 Mar 1861 in Huntington Co., IndianaG.2
     Hellen apparently died before 1866, as her husband married again then, but no record of her death has been found.4,5,6
