G. As he climbed the ladder with a bucketful of red paint, the ladder broke and he tumbled headfirst into the open doorway of the outside stairway to the cellar. The paint landed on top of him, covering his face, long beard, clothing and hands. Those finding him covered in red were afraid he had suffered fatal injuries, but when the paint was removed and a doctor examined him no broken bones or internal injuries were found.
