The existent copies of the St. Louis city directories for the 1930s and 1940s are fragmentary, but the "F" sections do exist for the 1933, 1937, 1943, and 1944 editions and Lewis is not listed in any of them. He is not among those listed at 3140 Easton Ave. in the 1940 census.
On 20 Dec 1952 Lewis fell from his bed to the concrete floor at his home in the basement of 3140 Easton Ave. and fractured his skull. He died from his injuries six days later.
