     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Reynolds Twp., Lee Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents, John H. Kersten and Anna Wiener.10

He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Ashton Twp., Lee Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents.12
     Ernest registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Ashton, Lee Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed as a farm laborer working for Charles Mall in Ashton.2
     Ernest graduated from North Central College, with a B. S. degree. He obtained an M. A. degree from Columbia University.13
     By 1920, at age 21, he was teaching at the Miami Military Institute, at Germantown, OhioG. The school originated in 1894 as a music school, but later changed to a military program. It closed in 1933 when enrollment dropped during the Great Depression. The property, later a church camp, fell into disrepair and was demolished in 2015.14,15
     Ernest appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Germantown, Montgomery Co., Ohio, on West Warren St. G, enumerated 17 Jan 1920, apparently sharing a room with Ray Heck, another teacher, age 24. They were living in a building with other Institute staff, including officials and their families, other teachers, cooks, and servants.16
     Ernest married Rachel Elizabeth Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 16 Jun 1920 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG, with Rev. Julius A. Giese officiating.7,8
     Ernest and Rachel moved frequently in the early years of their marriage. Their first child was born in Chicago, in Jun 1921.17
      By 1922 he was teaching at Menominee High School in Menominee, MichiganG.18
     Ernest and Rachel moved back to IllinoisG by 1926. He was a science teacher at Elgin High School, in Elgin, Illinois, by 1927.19,20
     Ernest and Rachel appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Elgin, Kane Co., Illinois, on Division St. G, enumerated 14 Apr 1930, reporting they were renting their home, for $45 per month, and owned a radio. Their children Juanita, Jeanne, and Donald were listed as living with them.21
     Ernest and Rachel moved to Coles Co., IllinoisG, before 1935. They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Mattoon, Coles Co., Illinois, at 2609 Western Ave. G, enumerated 9 Apr 1940, reporting they were renting their home, for $35 per month, and had lived in the same town in 1935. Their children Juanita, Jeanne, and Donald were listed as living with them, though Janetta was marked as absent from the home.22
      By 1940 Ernest William Kersten was principal of a public high school. That year he reported he had worked 60 hours the last week of March, and had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning $3,150.22 He registered for the draft for World War II on 11 Feb 1942, while living at 2609 Western Ave., Mattoon, Coles Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed by the senior high school in Mattoon.23
     Ernest and Rachel moved to Peoria by 1946, where they lived at 106 Barker Ave. G.24
     He was a representative for Equitable Life Assurance in PeoriaG, by 1946. reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 45 hours the prior week. He also reported working 50 weeks in 1949, earning $4,500 in wages or salary, $550 from his own business, and $522 in interest, dividends, etc. By 1952 he was an assistant agency manager for the company.25,26
     Ernest and Rachel appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 106 Barker G, enumerated 3 May 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm and they lived in the same house the year before. There were two lodgers, Maurace Griffitts and Lucas Chinn, age 24 and 23 respectively, listed in the household.27
     Ernest and Rachel moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, by 1953, where they lived at 1805 Georgia NE. G.28
      In AlbuquerqueG he was employed by the Sandia Corp., at the Atomic Energy Commission facitlity.28
     Ernest died on 20 Feb 1989 at age 90.9

Ezra Louis Shols was born on 10 May 1900 in Charlotte, IllinoisG.4,5,6
     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Charlotte Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents, Louis W. Shols and Elizabeth Schade.11
     He moved to town with his parents between 1900 and 1910. He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents.12
     Ezra registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed as farming.2
     He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents, Louis W. Shols and Elizabeth Schade.13
     He and his brother were both shown as farmers, on their own farm, in the 1920 census. This may have been the family farm, as their father was shown as having no occupation. When he married a few months later he reported his occupation as owner and manager of a garage.13,1 He was an auto mechanic for Ingram Motor Car Company by 1921. In 1925 he was a salesman for them but by the following year was again a mechanic and continued to work in their service department until about 1932 in PeoriaG.14,15,16
     Ezra married Eva Henrietta Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 26 May 1920 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG, with Rev. J. A. Giese, pastor of the Evangelical Church, officiating. His father had given his assent since he was a minor. She was the elder sister of the two sisters his first cousins William and Erasmus would marry serveral years later.7,8
     Ezra and Eva moved to Peoria after their marriage. By 1921 they were living at 510 N. Madison Ave. G.17 Ezra and Eva moved to 309 E Virginia Ave. G by 1926.18
      The following year they moved to 343 Callender G.19 They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 343 Callender G, enumerated 7 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $8,000, and owned a radio. Their children Margery and Doris were listed as living with them.20
     He was working as a salesman for Smith Brothers, Inc., dealers in Packard and Nash motor cars, by 1933. After working for them a few years, about 1937 he became a foreman for Landis Motor Company, dealers in Nash and Lafeyette motor cars. The next year he was a salesman for J. T. Bower Motors, a Buick dealer.21
     Ezra and Eva appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 343 Callender G, enumerated 3 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $6,000, and had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Margery and Doris were listed as living with them.22
     By 1940 he was the owner of a used automobile dealership located at 110 W. Washington, East PeoriaG. That year he reported working 70 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year.23,22
     Ezra registered for the draft for World War II on 16 Feb 1942, while living at 343 Callender Ave., Peoria, Peoria Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed as a farmer.24
     By 1943 he was working as a shopman for R. G. LeTourneau, manufacturers of heavy construction equipment. By the following year he had returned to the automobile business, as a salesman for Jarvis Downtown Chevrolet. By 1948 he had left the automobile business and was a salesman for Commercial National Estate. Two years later he was again a salesman for J. T. Bower Motors.25
     Ezra and Eva appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 343 Callender G, enumerated 12 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.26
     Ezra and Eva returned to ChatsworthG in 1955.27
     Ezra died on 31 Jul 1971 at age 71.9,10 He was buried on 3 Aug 1971 in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Livingston Co.G.3

     He moved to town with his parents between 1900 and 1910. He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents.14
     William was in the U.S. Army in World War I, enlisting 26 Jun 1918. He was discharged 25 Jun 1919.15,16
     He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Fourth St., Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Erasmus Ross Shols and Louise Marie Wienand, reporting his occupation as a clerk in a clothing store.17
     William married Alice Serene Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 6 Jun 1923 in Evangelical Church, Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG. Rev. Edward George Vaubel of Downer's Grove, husband of her cousin Catherine Angelia Glabe, officiated. Alice was an older sister of the woman his brother Erasmus would marry three years later.7,8,9
     William studied at University of Illinois, Urbana, IllinoisG, and was to graduate in Feb 1924 as an electrical engineer, but apparently did not receive his degree.18,19
     William and Alice moved the suburbs of Chicago about 1925. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Maywood, Cook Co., Illinois, at 1908 S. 5th Ave. G, enumerated 5 Apr 1930, reporting they were renting their home, for $65 per month. Their children Claire and Glen were listed as living with them, as was her brother, Paul Sebastian Glabe. Also listed was Edward Allen, another electrical engineer, who was listed as a lodger.20
     William and Alice moved to EvanstonG between 1935 and 1940.21 They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois, at 1215 Cleveland St. G, enumerated 28 May 1940, reporting that they were renting their home, for $40 per month, and had lived in Maywood in 1935. Their children Claire and Glen were listed as living with them.21
     William and Alice moved to Joliet by 1942, when they were living at 5 N. Hickory G.22
     He was an electrical engineer in 1930, and reported he was a maintainer for a public utility in 1940. That year he reported he had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $2,200.23,21 He registered for the draft for World War II on 16 Feb 1942, while living at 5 N. Hickory St., Joliet, Will Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed by Public Service Company.3
      By 1948 William and Alice moved back to the Peoria area. In 1948 they were living at 211 Vincent Ave., Peoria HeightsG.24 By 1950 they moved 524 Bradley Ave., in Peoria G.25 They appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, at 524 Bradley G, enumerated 25 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.26
     In Peoria William operated Shols Skelgas and Appliances, at 220 Franklin. G He reported in the 1950 census he had worked 46 hours the prior week. He seems to have disposed of the business after his wife's death.27,28 By 1956 they moved 730 E. Corrington Ave. G.29
     His wife died on 3 Mar 1957 in Peoria, IllinoisG.30
     William moved back to ChatsworthG after the death of his wife.31 He moved to Chico, CaliforniaG, where his son Glen was a practicing urologist, apparently not long before his death.32
     William died on 26 Aug 1978 in Chico, Butte Co., CaliforniaG, at age 81.10,11 He was buried on 30 Aug 1978 in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, IllinoisG.12

     He was known to family as Rusty.15
     Erasmus studied engineering at University of Illinois, Urbana, IllinoisG, from 1921 to 1924. It appears he did not receive a degree.16
     Erasmus married Seberta Leona Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 28 Nov 1926 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., IllinoisG, with Rev. C. J Krell, minister of the Evangelical Church, officiating. She was a younger sister of the woman his brother William had married three years before.7,8

     Erasmus and Seberta moved to SkokieG, a few miles east, before 1950. They appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Skokie, Cook Co., Illinois, at 8021 Keating G, enumerated 16 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.24
