Her father died on 27 Aug 1904, when Florence was 11 years old.20,21
Florence returned to Ohio before 1910, but how that happened is unknown. No evidence has been found that her mother returned to that area. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Dodson Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, in the household of William Isaac Brose and Elizabeth Hendrickson, listed as a servant. He was the older brother of the man she would marry later that year.22
On 13 Jul 1910 in Highland Co., Ohio, probate court, Florence requested that Lee Terrell, brother-in-law of her employer and of her prospective husband be appointed her guardian. At age 17 she was able to select her guardian. The request was approved, and the court required no bond because the appointment was for the purpose of secure a marriage license.23
Florence married first Truman Brose, son of William Joseph H. Brose and Edna Caroline Shaffer, on 16 Jul 1910 in Lynchburg, Highland Co., Ohio, with Rev. George Trosth officiating, with the consent of Lee Terrell, her guardian, as she was under age.10,11,12
Florence and Truman appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at 3435 Germantown St., enumerated 9 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. Their children Lola and Harold were listed as living with them.24
Truman filed a petition for divorce against Florence in Oct 1924 in Montgomery Co., Ohio divorce court. He charged that she "jabbed him in the leg with a butcher knife, threw an aluminum kettle at him, locked him out of the house at night, and wounded his affections by going out with another man." They were listed with separate addresses. Apparently they reconciled as she filed a new petition several years later.25
Florence was granted a divorce against Truman on 9 Jun 1927 in Highland Co., Ohio.13,14
Florence married second Elva Ervin Gebhart, son of Edward Gebhart and Marietta Nicholas, about 1928.15,16
