Narrative:

     Sophia Flora was born in 1790 in Pennsylvania.5,6,7
     Her father died on 10 Jan 1795, when Sophia was about 5 years old.13,14 Peter Shuster, merchant in Middletown, was appointed as her guardian on 17 Jan 1797 for as long as she remained a minor.15
     She was probably one of the two females under age 10 listed in the household of her mother, Catharine Toot, in the 1800 Federal Census of Lower Paxton Twp., Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania.16
     Sophia moved to Halifax Co., Virginia, before 1809, apparently following her uncle Adam Toot.17,18
     For reasons not stated, on 3 May 1809 Elisha Green of Swatara Twp. was appointed as guardian of Sophia's estate at the Dauphin Co. Orphan's Court in Harrisburg.19 On 1 Aug 1809 the court approved the report of the inquest on dividing her father's real estate, concluding it could not be divided but should instead be sold for the appraised value. Sophia's share was $457.80.20
     Sophia married Benjamin Brady, son of Thomas Brady, on 20 Feb 1813 in Halifax Co., Virginia.8,9,10
     Sophia and Benjamin Brady moved to Ohio shortly after their marriage. She was probably the female age 30 to 40 listed in the household of her husband, Benjamin, in the 1830 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio.21 She was probably the female age 40 to 50 listed in the household of her husband in the 1840 Federal Census of Fairfield Twp., Highland Co., Ohio.22
     Sophia and Benjamin and their children, including those already married, moved to Missouri between 1840 and 1850. Sophia and Benjamin appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Marshall Twp., Platte Co., Missouri, enumerated 14 Sep 1850, reporting real estate valued at $4,800. Their children Angelina and Elvira were listed as living with them. There were also three slaves, a female age 25 and two children, ages 4 and 1.23,24
     Sophia appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Green Twp., Platte Co., Missouri, in the household of her son Walter and his wife Elizabeth C. Lamar.25 Benjamin remained on the farm, being enumerated 13 Aug 1860 in Marshall Twp. with Arena and Elvira.26,27
     Sophia and Benjamin retired from the farm and moved to town by 1870. They appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Weston, Platte Co., Missouri, enumerated 27 Aug 1870, reporting no real or personal estate owned by him, but $2,000 personal estate of hers. Their daughter Elvira was listed as living with them.28
     Her husband died on 1 Jun 1876.29
     Sophia relinquished her right to server as administrator of her husband's estate, so William M. Kurser was issued letters of administration by the court on 8 Jul 1876.30 The administrator had been authorized to sell her late husband's personal property, which was mostly sold to others. On 13 Jul 1877 he reported she had purchased 62 bushels of corn in the shock for $15.50 and a table for $2.00.31
     On 17 Aug 1877 the court ordered the administrator to pay her $150 of the $400 she was entitled to under the law.32 On 24 Jan 1878 the court ordered the administrator to pay her $250, the balance of the $400.33
     Sophia appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Marshall Twp., Platte Co., Missouri, enumerated 12 Jun 1880. Her daughter Elvira was listed as living with her.34
     Sophia died on 10 Oct 1881.11 She was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Weston, Platte Co., Missouri.12
