     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Hedgesville Twp., Berkeley Co., West Virginia, G in the household of his parents, Charles Amos Wolford and Fannie Ellen McCleaf.16 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Hedgesville, Berkeley Co., West Virginia, G in the household of his parents.17
     Alston registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Martinsburg, West VirginiaG, reporting he was employed as a farmer by his father.18
     Alston was in the U.S. Army in World War I, enlisting 4 Mar 1918.19
     Alston married Mary Gladys R. Flora, daughter of Edward K. Flora and Mary Arizona Wellen, on 17 Jul 1918 in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MarylandG, with Rev. J. R. Gaar officiating.7,8,9
     Alston was He served in the Medical Detachment, 104th Infantry. He returned from the European Theater aboard the U.S.S. Mt. Vernon, departing Brest, FranceG, and arriving in Boston 4 Apr 1919. He was discharged 24 Apr 1919, as a private first class.20,21,22

Their children Arnold, Louise, Meade, and Lewis were listed as living with them.24
     Alston and Mary appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Falling Waters, Berkeley Co., West Virginia G, enumerated 24 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, for $5 per month, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Arnold, Louise, Meade, and Lewis were listed as living with them.25
     Alston registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Hedgesville, Berkeley Co., West VirginiaG, reporting he was employed by Potomac Edison Company.3
     He was a farmer in 1920, and a power plant operator by 1930, reporting in 1940 he had worked 42 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,500.26,27,28
     Alston and Mary were divorced before 1949.10
     Alston married Dorothy Beatrice Williams, daughter of Enoch S. Williams and Cathrine Welch, on 25 Apr 1949 in Berkeley Co., West VirginiaG.11
     His second wife died on 20 Sep 1986.29
