Robert and his mother were not listed there, and have not been found elsewhere in the 1920 census.¹⁶

     On 1 Jul 1934 he hitched a pair of young horses to a binder and began harvesting his crop. He was riding astride one of the horses with his younger brother Lemuel on the binder seat. A low-flying airplane spooked the horses, who bolted. John was thrown off the horse and run over by the binder. He died later that day of his injuries.^16,17
