David Ayres was born about 1841 in VirginiaG.4,5,6
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Danville, Pittsylvania Co., VirginiaG, in the household of his parents, William Ayres and Julia Ann Henderson.1,9 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., VirginiaG, in the household of his parents.2,10
     David married Sally King Davis, daughter of Jacob Davis and Catherine E. Toot, and a sister of the woman his brother George married.7,8
     David and Sally appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Danville, Pittsylvania Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 1 Jul 1870, reporting personal estate of $500. Their son Warren was listed as living with them.3
     David and Sally appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Danville, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, at Main St. G, enumerated 5 Jun 1880. Their children Warren, Annie, and Page were listed as living with them, as well as his wife's cousin, Maria Louis Toot, and two Black female servants.8
     He was a clerk in 1860, and tobacco manufacturer by 1870.11,12,13
