Narrative:

     Margaret Flora was born about 1 Aug 1823 in Pennsylvania.6,7,8 Her name at birth may have been Leah Margaret, as that is how her brother addressed her in his will. However every record as an adult shows her given name as Margaret.14
     She was probably the female age 5 to 10 listed in the household of her father, George Flora, in the 1830 Federal Census of Air Twp., Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.15 She was probably one of the two females age 15 to 20 listed in the household of her father in the 1840 Federal Census of Air Twp., Bedford Co., Pennsylvania.16
     Margaret married John A. Vallance.9,10,11
     Margaret and John A. Vallance appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Licking Creek Twp., Fulton Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 17 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $300. Their children George, Rebecca and Robert were listed as living with them.17
     She was managed the family farm after the death of her husband, with the aid of her teenage son George. By 1870 she was working as a domestic servant.18,19 He apparently died before 1860.20,21
     Margaret appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Spursville, Fulton Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 2 Aug 1860, reporting no real estate, but personal estate of $176. Her children George, Rebecca, Robert, Emma and Virginia were listed as living with her, as was Elizabeth Wadells, age 17, listed as a servant.3
     Margaret appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of McConnellsburg, Fulton Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 21 Jul 1870, in the household of Thomas Patterson, an apparently prosperous dry goods merchant. Her daughter Virginia was listed as living with her.22
     Margaret was named an heir in the will of Joseph M. Flora, her brother, dated 29 May 1877 in Funkstown, to receive upon the death or re-marriage of George's widow half of the property remaining after their brother George received the real estate, to be shared with her sister Catherine.23
     Margaret appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Mt. Holly Springs, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of Virginia and William H. Peffer, her daughter and her husband.24
     Margaret died on 16 Feb 1893.12,13 She was buried in Mount Holly Springs Cemetery, Mt. Holly Springs, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania.12,13
