Adam immigrated in 1872 and later was naturalized.16
Adam married Caroline Glabe, daughter of Johann Jakob Glebe and Anna Katharina Stein, on 18 Jan 1877 in Tazewell Co., Illinois.8,9,10 Adam settled in Farmdale after he immigrated to the United States.17
After their marriage, Adam and Caroline lived at the old Glabe homestead in Farmdale, where all of their children were born.17 They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Morton Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their daughter Katie was listed as living with them.3
Adam and Caroline appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 22 Jun 1900, reporting the family owned its farm, mortgage free. Their children Katie, Margaret, Louis, Edward, Nellie, Clara, Rudolph and Viola were listed as living with them.16
Adam was a farmer.3,16 On the morning of 13 Mar 1903 as he was working on his farm near Farmdale, William Minch, ex-husband of his sister Margaret, rode up. It seems that he asked for feed for his horse, as they went into the barn and Adam climbed the stairs, apparently to throw down some hay. At this point William shot Adam in the back. Hearing the commotion, Adam's wife in the house sent her sons, Edward and Louis, to the barn. As they approached the barn William came out with his horse. He spoke pleasantly of the weather, asked as to their health and, getting through the gate, rode off. Edward ran into the barn, heard his father groan and found him voiceless and dying at the top of the stairs.18,19,20
Adam died on 13 Mar 1903 in Farmdale, Illinois, at age 50.11,12,13 He was buried in Farmdale Cemetery, Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois.2,14
