     Rudolph Walter Oetzel was born on 10 Mar 1894 in Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.9,10,11 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Adam Oetzel and Caroline Glabe.6
     His father died on 13 Mar 1903, when Rudolph was 9 years old.18,19,20 Rudolph appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of his mother.7
     Rudolph registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Washington, Illinois, reporting he was self-employed as a farmer.21
     Rudolph was enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army in World War I 27 Jun 1918. He was discharged 10 Jun 1919.22,23
     He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of his mother.8
     Rudolph married Estella Sophia Hess, daughter of Jacob Hess Jr. and Amelia Esser, on 16 Feb 1921 in Washington, Illinois.12,13,14
     Rudolph and Estella appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 23 Apr 1930, reporting they rented their farm. Their children Harlan and Doris were listed as living with them, His first cousin, Charles Edward Glabe, and his family apparently lived close by, as they are listed as the second following household.24
     Rudolph and Estella appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 26 Apr 1940, reporting that they rented their home, for $20 per month, and that the family had lived in that house in 1935. Their children Harlan, Doris and Shirley were listed as living with them.25
     He was a farm laborer in 1920, and a farmer operating his own farm by 1930.26,27,28 He registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, reporting he was employed by self-employed as a farmer.2 He reported in the 1950 census he had worked on the farm 70 hours the prior week.29
     Rudolph and Estella appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at Washington Rd., enumerated 1 May 1950, reporting they lived on a farm of over three acres. Their daughter Shirley was listed as living with them.30
     His wife died on 20 Aug 1982.31,32
     Rudolph died on 19 Jul 1990 in Illinois at age 96.15,16 He was buried in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.17
