Narrative:
Elizabeth Ruppel was born on 31 Aug 1855 in Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.8,9,10 She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Chatsworth Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents, Henry Ruppel and Anna Gehla Berlet.1 She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents.2Elizabeth married John Glabe, son of Johann Jakob Glebe and Anna Katharina Stein, and brother of her sister Anna's future husband, on 11 Mar 1875.11,12,13
Elizabeth and John lived on a farm west of Washington until 1877, when they moved to Germanville, where she had grown up.6,18,19,20 They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their children Henry, Matilda and Mary were listed as living with them.21
Elizabeth and John appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 Jun 1900, reporting the family rented its farm. Their children Louis, Harvey, Catherine, Fred and Emma were listed as living with them, as was Nannie Wilson, age 22, described as "help," whose husband of four months was listed on the nearby Blakely farm. Elizabeth's parents were apparently living nearby, as they are listed next.22
Elizabeth and John lived on their farm in Germanville Twp. until 1903, when he retired from farming and they moved in to Chatsworth. Elizabeth lived long after him in the family home in Chatsworth.6 Elizabeth died on 8 Feb 1907 in Chatsworth, Illinois.6
Elizabeth appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 23 Apr 1910, reporting she owned her home, mortgage free. Her children Fred, Emma and Henry were listed as living with her, as was Henry's wife, Nellie L. Caldwell, as well as 43-year old German-born Anna Wisthuff, identified as a cousin.23 Her daughter Catherine and her husband and their infant daughter were listed as living in a part of the same dwelling, apparently renting from her.24
Elizabeth's father moved in with her about 1911, living there until his death a year later.25
Elizabeth appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, at Oak St., enumerated 17 Jan 1920, reporting she owned her home, mortgage free. Her children Fred and Emma were listed as living with her, as was Emma's husband, Fred Warner, and their daughter, as well as 50-year old German-born Anna Wisthuff, identified as a cousin.26
Elizabeth died on 19 Apr 1928 in Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, at age 72.14,15 She was buried on 22 Apr 1928 in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois.16,17
Her obituary says that she was "of a sympathetic nature and exercised the sprit of helpfulness toward the sick and the needy in her days when strength and health permitted it."6
