     Harmon Jacob Hartwig was born on 6 Oct 1833 in Meiningen, Saxony.5,6,7
     He immigrated about 1848 to America and was naturalized in 1868.15,16,17,18
     Harmon married first Marie Sophie Charlotte Geltmeyer, daughter of Ernst Heinrich Kuhlmann and Anne Marie Elisabeth Fenncker, between 1850 and 1860, most likely in Huntington Co. but the marriage was not recorded there.8,9
     Harmon and Marie appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 4 Jun 1860, reporting no real estate but personal estate of $60. Their children Augustus and Angeline were listed as living with them.1
     He was a cook in 1860, and a clerk in a grocery store by 1870.19,20
     His wife apparently died between 1862 and 1870.21,22,23
     Harmon appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 27 Jun 1870, listed as living with Abraham Falk, a grocer. He reported real estate valued at $4,000 and no personal estate.24
     Harmon married second Elizabeth Zahn, daughter of George Zahn, on 12 Jun 1872 in Huntington Co., Indiana, with Rev. P. H. Dippell officiating.10,11,12
     Harmon and Elizabeth appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Huntington Twp., Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 18 Jun 1880. Their children William, Harriett, George and Alvin were listed as living with them, as were his children by his prior marriage, Emma, Augustus and Angeline.25
     He was a farmer by 1880, on a farm two miles west of in Huntington.26,27,28,29
     Harmon and Elizabeth appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Huntington Twp., Huntington Co., Indiana, enumerated 8 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their farm. Their children William and George were listed as living with them.30
     Harmon and Elizabeth appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Huntington Twp., Huntington Co., Indiana, on Maple Grove Road, enumerated 25 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their farm. Their son William was listed as living with them, as was William Kocher, a hired hand.31
     Harmon and Elizabeth moved to the city in Mar 1918.4 On 1 Mar 1918 there was an auction at his farm to sell all his livestock, equipment, and other goods. The livestock included six horses, six head of cattle, three sows, and six or more dozen chickens. There was a long list of implements, including a binder, mowers, plows, and hay and corn implements. Produce included hay, oats, corn, and fodder. Lunch was served on the grounds.32
     Harmon and Elizabeth appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, at 637 Elm St., enumerated 7 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage.33
     Harmon died on 30 Aug 1920, at his residence, 634 Elm St., Huntington, Indiana, at age 86.13,14 He was buried on 1 Sep 1920 in St. Peter's Reformed Cemetery, Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana.4
