William John Baumgartner was born on 23 Mar 1898 in Huntington, Indiana.9,10,11He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Columbia, Whitley Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents, John H. Baumgartner and Emma H. Kuhlman.7
He moved to St Joseph Co. with his parents in 1901.18,19 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of South Bend, Saint Joseph Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.8 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of South Bend, St Joseph Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.20
He was a cashier at Standard Oil Co. by 1920.21
William moved to Rockford by 1930. He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Rockford, Winnebago Co., Illinois, at 521 North Main St., enumerated 30 Apr 1930, as one of two lodgers in the household of Fred Stoller and his wife Auddie.22
He was a manager at an automobile finance company by 1930, reporting in 1940 he had worked 45 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,000.23,24
William married Marjorie E. Churchill, daughter of Rolla W. Churchill and Ethel A. Wisner, on 14 Feb 1931 in Waukegan, Illinois.12,13,14
