Narrative:

William H. Kuhlman was born in Aug 1858 in Indiana.9,10,11
He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents, Frederick Kuhlman and Varena Long.14 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.15 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Huntington, Huntington Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.16
William moved to Oklahoma Territory about 1889, and his brother Frederick followed about two months later.17 They appeared on the 1890 Territorial Census of Oklahoma, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., enumerated 16 Jun 1890. They were listed as boarders in an unidentified establishment.18
William and Frederick both moved to Texas about 1892 and to Fort Worth two years later.19,20 William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas, at 114 East Weatherford St., enumerated 1 Jun 1900, listed as one of 31 boarders in a hotel kept by John Miller and his family. Most of the other boarders were railroad workers, some were tradesmen, and one was a physician. Six were wives and two were young children.21
William apparently returned to Oklahoma by 1903. On 18 Feb 1903 He was granted a patent for 160 acres of land in Comanche Co., Oklahoma, under the Cash Entry Act of April 24, 1820. That act reduced the minimum price of public land to $1.25 per acre, and the minimum purchase to 80 acres, but required payment in cash, not on credit. The parcel, the southeast quarter of section 27, township 1 south, range 10 west, was in Cotton Co. after that county was formed in 1912.22
William has not been found in the 1910 census, but it seems he was living on or near his land. When his mother died in 1905, and his father in 1918, both their obituaries showed him as being in Lawton, Oklahoma, the nearest town to his property.8,7
William was named an heir in the will of his father dated 5 Jul 1918, in which he was to receive an equal share in the estate with his seven siblings.23
William appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Hulen, Cotton Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 18 Feb 1920, reporting he owned his home, which was mortgaged.24
He was a plasterer, retired by 1930.25,26,27,28
William appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Hulen, Cotton Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 7 Apr 1930, reporting he owned a home valued at $20,000, and owned a radio.29
William appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Hulen, Cotton Co., Oklahoma, enumerated 16 Apr 1940, reporting he rented his home, for $1 per month, and that they had lived in same house in 1935.30
William died on 18 Oct 1946 in Cotton Co., Oklahoma, at age 88.12 He was buried in Walters Cemetery, Walters, Cotton Co., Oklahoma.13
