     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky, in the household of his father, Caleb Clark Cobb, and Louisa Berry Long, his mother.19 He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Dycusburg, Crittenden Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.20,21
     Gideon married first Sarah Elizabeth Summers, daughter of Joseph Summers and Evelina Haynes, on 8 Nov 1865 in Livingston Co., Kentucky, at her father's home, with Collin Hodge officiating.11,12
     His wife died on 17 Nov 1866 in Livingston Co., Kentucky.22,23,24
     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Dycusburg, Crittenden Co., Kentucky, in the household of his mother, Louisa Berry Long.25 Gideon also appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Paducah, McCracken Co., Kentucky, enumerated 2 Jun 1870, living in a hotel.26
     Gideon married second Sarah Martha McElevey, daughter of Ezekiel McElevey and Louisa Caroline Stevens, on 27 Jan 1880 in New Liberty, Pope Co., Illinois, with Rev. Elisha Baugh officiating.13,14
     He was a steamboat clerk in 1870, and an "agent" when he married for the second time in 1880. His later residence in Shawneetown, Illinois, a significant river port at the time, suggests he continued to be involved in river trade.26,27
     It appears that Gideon and Sarah lived for a time in Kentucky after their marriage, as their eldest son was born there in 1881. By 1883 they had moved to Shawneetown, Illinois.28
     On 17 Mar 1883 Gideon sold the two lots in Dycusburg, Kentucky, purchased by his mother in 1869. Since no deed transferring them from her to him, it would appear that he inherited them at her death. He sold them to William J. Boyd of Gallatin Co., Illinois, for $800.29
     Gideon died on 16 Jul 1895 at age 49.15,16,17 He was buried in Westwood Cemetery, Shawneetown, Gallatin Co., Illinois.18
