Narrative:

     Lewis Flora was born on 4 Apr 1869 in Lake Springs, Missouri.7,8,9 Lewis and Davidson, who died as an infant, were twins.
     His mother died about 3 Aug 1869, when Lewis was four months old.11 Lewis appeared with his father John R. Flora, on the 1870 Federal Census of Watkins Twp., Dent Co., Missouri, in the household of Samuel Hyer Jr. and Naomi Wilson, his late mother's parents.12
     He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Watkins Twp., Dent Co., Missouri, in the household of his father.5
     Lewis and his brother Samuel were operating their father's farm by 1900, while their father was working as a carpenter.13 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Watkins Twp., Dent Co., Missouri, in the household of his father.13
     Lewis moved to St. Louis by 1908, when he was living at 2901 Gamble. By that time he had taken up his father's trade, carpentry, building houses, which he seems to have continued as long as he was working.14,15,16 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of St. Louis, Missouri, at 2901 Gamble St., enumerated 15 Apr 1910, lodging, along with a married couple, in the home of James Farrell and his family.17
     About 1913 he moved to 1205 Glasgow Ave.18 He is not found in the city directories for intervening years, but is listed in the 1917 edition at 3113 Easton Ave.19 By 1920 he had moved next door to 3111A Easton Ave., but he is not among the residents listed in the 1920 census at that address, nor has he been found elsewhere in that census.20
     By 1929 he had moved to 3140A Easton Ave., where he lived until his death.21
     Lewis appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of St. Louis, Missouri, at 3140A Easton Ave., enumerated 2 Apr 1930, as a lodger, with one other, in the household of Addie Anderson.22
     He seems to have slipped from sight after 1932. The existent copies of the St. Louis city directories for the 1930s and 1940s are fragmentary, but the "F" sections do exist for the 1933, 1937, 1943, and 1944 editions and Lewis is not listed in any of them. He is not among those listed at 3140 Easton Ave. in the 1940 census.
     On 20 Dec 1952 Lewis fell from his bed to the concrete floor at his home in the basement of 3140 Easton Ave. and fractured his skull. He died from his injuries six days later.10
     Lewis died on 26 Dec 1952 in 3140 Easton Ave., St. Louis, Missouri, at age 83, at his home.10 His body was apparently unclaimed, and on 31 Jan 1953 his remains were given to the St. Louis Anatomical Board, presumably for use in one of the city's medical schools.10
