     Her mother died on 21 Oct 1931, when Virginia was 4 years old.18
     She appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia, in the household of her father and stepmother, Eva Spence.19
     Virginia and Virgil Issac Pitmann, son of Marion Seal Pittman and Minta Kuhn, obtained a license to marry on 18 Dec 1942 in Wayne Co., Ohio. However it appears the marriage was never formalized. According to the family story, her father discovered the planned marriage and put an end to it.20,21,22
