     He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Redlands Twp., San Bernardino Co., California, in the household of his parents, William Franklin McWilliams and Ida Allie Crombie.5
     He was working on the home farm by age 19, continuing to work in farming until at least 1930.12,13
     Gerald registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Yucaipa, San Bernardino Co., California, reporting he was employed as rancher by his father.14
     He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Yucaipa Twp., San Bernardino Co., California, in the household of his parents.15 He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Yucaipa Twp., San Bernardino Co., California, in the household of his parents.16
     Gerald appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Spadra, Los Angeles Co., California, at Pacific Colony State Hospital, enumerated 26 Apr 1940. He was living in the Old Nurses Dorm on West Dr. with 23 other employees. The Pacific Colony was a state home for the feebleminded, which later became the Pacific State Hospital, then the Lanterman Development Center. He reported he had lived in rural San Bernardino Co. in 1935.17
     Gerald married Margaret Hazel Morris, daughter of William A. Morris and Margaret Jennie Reigle, on 17 Jan 1942 in Las Vegas, Clark Co., Nevada, with Rev. Ford L. Gilbert, Methodist minister officiating.2,9,10
     By 1940 he was a truck driver at Pacific Colony. That year he reported he had worked 48 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,440.18 He registered for the draft for World War II on 15 Feb 1942, while living at Spadra, Los Angeles Co., California, reporting he was employed by Pacific Colony, as a power equipment operator.19
     Gerald enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army on 13 Jul 1942, in Los Angeles, California. He was discharged 13 Oct 1944 as a Tech 5, having served in the 15th Field Hospital. During much of his service he was an ambulance driver in north Africa.20,21,22,23
     He continued as an equipment operator at Pacific Colony after the War, reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 40 hours the prior week. He also reported working 52 weeks in 1949, earning $3,200 in wages or salary.24,25
     Gerald and Margaret adopted the children of her nephew William Henry Morris and his first wife, on 25 Jun 1949 in Wayne Co., Ohio, with the final decree issued 25 Jan 1950.26
     Gerald and Margaret appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Pomona, Los Angeles Co., California, at 365 E Ninth, enumerated 19 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm and they lived in a different house but the same county the year before. Their three adopted children were listed as living with them, as well as two roomers, Alyne L Johnston, age 29, and Hope L Bancroft, age 13.27
     Gerald died on 5 Feb 1959 in Pomona, Los Angeles Co., California, at age 58.11 He was buried on 9 Feb 1959 in Pomona Cemetery.11
