     Gertrude E. Trusler was born about 1878 in Mt. Ayr, Ringgold Co., Iowa.8,9,10,11
     She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Lotts Creek Twp., Ringgold Co., Iowa, in the household of her parents, John Trusler and Mary E. Farrell.4 She appeared on the 1895 State Census of Lotts Creek Twp., Ringgold Co., Iowa, in the household of her parents.21
     Her father died on 23 Jan 1898, when Gertrude was about 20 years old.22,23
     She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Poe Twp., Ringgold Co., Iowa, in the household of her mother.24
     Gertrude married first Alva Floyd White, son of John White and Emma [surname unknown], about 1903.12,13,14
     She was a housekeeper by 1900, then by 1920 became an office worker at a seed company. She was the manager of the M. O. department there by 1930.24,25,26,27
     Gertrude appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lotts Creek Twp., Ringgold Co., Iowa, in the household of her mother, and her children Beatrice, Audry and Paul.25
     Her husband died on 22 Feb 1914.28,29
     Gertrude appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, at 411 Valley Ave., enumerated 14 Jan 1920, reporting that she was renting her home. Her children Beatrice, Audry and Paul were listed as living with her.30
     Gertrude appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, at 511 West Valley, enumerated 15 Apr 1930, reporting that she was renting her home for $20 per month. Her children Audry and Paul were listed as living with her.31
     Gertrude married second Harry T. Shurtz, son of Frederick J. Shurtz and Sarah Elizabeth Riegel, on 14 Oct 1930 in Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, with Rev. James Pearson officiating.15,16
     Gertrude and Harry appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, at 511 West Valley, enumerated 18 Apr 1940, reporting that they owned a home valued at $2,500, and had lived in the same house in 1935.32
     Her husband died on 15 Sep 1941 in 311 West Valley, Shenandoah, Iowa.33,34
     Gertrude was named a beneficiary in the will of Harry T. Shurtz, her husband, to receive $50 per month from the income of trust set up from his estate, and any additional amount needed in the judgement of the trustee for her comfortable support. However she elected instead to take her widow's one-third of the estate as allowed under the law, amounting to about $25,000.35
     Gertrude appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, at 511 West Valley, enumerated 11 Apr 1950, reporting she lived in a home that was not on a farm and she lived in the same house the year before, and had earned $2,100 in interest, rents, etc. the prior year. Loraine Geason, a 20-year-old checker at a grocery and meat market, was listed as a lodger in her home.36
     Gertrude died on 28 Nov 1951 in Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa, at her home.17,18 She was buried on 2 Dec 1951 in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Page Co., Iowa.19,20
