     He was baptized on 26 Aug 1832 in St. Äegidien-Kirche, Altenhof, Königreich Sachsen. His godparents were Johann Gottfried Feiste, retired farmer in Erlbach, represented by master Jacob Reibetanz, hat maker and citizen in Hartha; his mother's younger sister, Johanna Rosina Grundmann; and Johann Christian David Berger, fellow worker in Leisnig, the surviving legitimate son of master Johann Gottlieb Berger, citizen and master mason in Leisnig.1
     August married Johanne Therese Huegel, daughter of Johann Gottlob Huegel.4 He was a shoemaker in Leisnig by the time his son Albert was born in 1867.5
