Narrative:

Georg Albert Gapsch was born on 26 Jun 1867 in Leisnig, Königreich Sachsen.5,6,7 He was baptized on 14 Jul 1867 in St. Matthäi Kirche, Leisnig. His godparents were his grandfather, Johann Gottlob Huegel; Christiane Huegel, from Mutzschen, who may well have been a sister of his mother; and his father's brother, Edward W. Gapsch.1 He was known to family as Albert Gapsch.2,3
Georg arrived in New York on 1 Sep 1893, on the Augusta Victoria, having departed Hamburg 24 Aug 1893, traveling in steerage class. He was traveling with Max Richard Gapsch, both saying their destination was San Francisco.11,12,13
Georg appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of La Platte, Sarpy Co., Nebraska, enumerated 4 Jun 1900, in the household of Edward Schneckloth and his wife Mary, their ten-year-old son, and her mother, where he was one of two farm workers.14
Georg apparently returned to Germany to accompany his wife-to-be, Hedwig L. Barthel, to the U.S. They arrived in New York on 22 Mar 1901 on the Pennsylvania, having departed Humburg 10 Mar 1901, traveling in steerage class.15,16,17
Georg married Hedwig L. Barthel about 1902.8,9,10
     He was naturalized in 1906.18,19,20
Georg and Hedwig were farmers, apparently jointly operating their farm, but retired by 1930.21,22,23,24,25
Georg and Hedwig appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Springfield, Sarpy Co., Nebraska, enumerated 27 Apr 1910, reporting that they owned their farm, which was mortgaged.26
They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Springfield, Sarpy Co., Nebraska, enumerated 29 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their farm, which was mortgaged.27
Georg and Hedwig appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Springfield, Sarpy Co., Nebraska, enumerated 17 Apr 1930, reporting that they rented their home, for $15 per month, and did not own a radio.28
Research Note, 11 May 2008: It would seem quite possible that Georg Albert Gapsch and Max Richard Gapsch were brothers. Max went to Germany in 1893 and returned with Albert, who was four years younger, both returning to San Fancisco. No further record of Max has been found.29,30

Children:
