Narrative:
August Gapsch was born in Keuern, Königreich Sachsen.4,5 He was apparently christened as Johann August Gottlieb Gapsch.9,10,1August married Johanna Christiane Grundmann, daughter of Johann Gottfried Grundmann and Johanna Elisabeth Richter, on 15 Aug 1830 in St. Äegidien-Kirche, Altenhof, Königreich Sachsen.6,7,8
His occupation was recorded as a Handarbeiters, literally "one who works with his hands," probably better translated as "day laborer," on the Landschulgut (apparently a large estate, though the meaning is unclear) in Klosterbuch when he married in 1830 in Klosterbuch.11
He was recorded as a Hausgenosse, or tenant, in Klosterbuch when his son Eduard was born in 1842, meaning he did not own his home or a farm, so had to work for others. When Eduard was married in 1864 August was shown as a Hausgenosse and Handarbeiters (tenant and day laborer) in the village of Eichardt, but "from now on" in Scheergrund. It appears that he moved from village to village, which are two or three miles apart, to find work.12,13 (See map.)
He sponsored the baptism of Robert Edward Gapsch, his grandson, on 13 Sep 1863 in St. Äegidien-Kirche, Altenhof, Königreich Sachsen.14
