     Elkanah Cobb was born on 19 Oct 1819 in Dearborn Co., Indiana.7,8,9
     He was probably one of the two males under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Joshua Cobb, in the 1820 Federal Census of Laughery, Dearborn Co., Indiana.22 He was probably one of the two males age 10 to15 listed in the household of his father in the 1830 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.23
     Elkanah married first Elizabeth Caffin, daughter of Richard Caffyn and Lydia Casto, and younger sister of the man his brother John had married the prior year, on 27 Mar 1842 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Daniel Stogsdill officiating.10,11
     His wife apparently died on 14 Oct 1846.24,25
     Elkanah moved to Dearborn Co. before 1850. He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, in the household of his brother John and his wife, and sister of Elkanah's late wife, Maria Caffyn. He reported real estate valued at $400.26
     Elkanah moved to Jackson Co. in 1853.27
     Elkanah married second Sarah Jane Youtsey, daughter of John Youtsey and Elizabeth Davis, on 6 Apr 1854 in Jackson Co., Indiana, with Rev. Orsamel Gilbert offciating.12,13,14
     Elkanah and Sarah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Seymour, Jackson Co., Indiana, enumerated 14 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $20,000 and personal estate of $3000. Their children Nancy and John were listed as living with them, as were Susan Dutch, age 22, and Charles Ferguson, a laborer.28
     He was a farmer all his adult life. He purchased two farms south of Seymour, and his residence, west of the city. According to his obituary, by "industry and grugality he acquired a considerable fortune." in Seymour.27,26,28,29 He registered for the draft for the Civil War, appearing on the register dated in Jun 1863, while living in Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Indiana, reporting he was employed as a farmer.30
     His second wife died on 18 Jul 1866.31,24
     Elkanah married third Lucy Barnaby, daughter of John Barnaby and Maria Ball, on 2 Feb 1870 in Johnson Co., Indiana.15,16,17
     Elkanah and Lucy appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Seymour, Jackson Co., Indiana, enumerated 25 Jul 1870. His children Nancy, John and Abraham were listed as living with them, as are her children by her prior marriage, Robert, Winifred and Agnes Elliott.29
     He and Lucy appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Indiana, enumerated 10 Jun 1880. Their daughter Alice was listed as living with them, as were his children by his prior marriage, Nancy, John and Abraham, and her daughters by her prior marriage, Winifred and Agnes Elliott. There were also two laborers apparently employed on the farm, Thomas Miskel, age 32, and Simon Larue, age 30.32
     Elkanah died on 4 Nov 1887, his residence near Seymour, Jackson Co., Indiana, at age 68.18,19 He was buried on 6 Nov 1887 in City Cemetery, Seymour, Jackson Co., Indiana.20,21
