Elizabeth Caffin was born in 1818 in Butler Co., Ohio, according to various online trees, but none offer any evidence to support these assertions, and no records have been found.She was probably one of the three females under age 10 listed in the household of her father, Richard Caffyn, in the 1820 Federal Census of Oxford Twp., Butler Co., Ohio.8 She was probably one of the two females age 10 to 15 listed in the household of her father in the 1830 Federal Census of Oxford Twp., Butler Co., Ohio.9
She moved to Indiana with her parents before 1840. She was probably one of the two females age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her father in the 1840 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.10
Elizabeth married Elkanah Cobb, son of Joshua Cobb and Nancy Crawford, and younger brother of the man her sister Maria had married the prior year, on 27 Mar 1842 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Daniel Stogsdill officiating.4,5
