Marie Hertel was born on 15 Feb 1843 in Waldeck, a small principality between Westphalia and Hesse-Nassau, which became part of Prussia, and later Germany.5,6,7,8At the time of her marriage, Marie was living in Minorstown, Missouri, which later became a part of the city of St. Louis.14 She married Charles Pruetzel, son of Christian Pruetzel, on 27 Nov 1865 in St. Louis Co., Missouri, with Rev. Agustus Cramer, pastor of the Evangelical Church officiating.9,10,11
Marie and Charles appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of St. Louis, Missouri, enumerated 23 Aug 1870, reporting no real estate, but personal estate of $200. Their daughter Wilhelmine was listed as living with them.15
Marie and Charles appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, enumerated 10 Jun 1880. Their children Wilhelmine, Mary, Henrick, Johanna, Louis and Annie were listed as living with them.16
Marie and Charles appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, enumerated 26 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its farm, free of mortgage. Their children Henrick, Louis, Elizabeth, Clara and Fred were listed as living with them.17
Marie and Charles appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, enumerated 18 Apr 1910, reporting that the family owned its farm, free of mortgage. Their son Fred was listed as living with them, and their son Louis and his family apparently lived close by, as they appear as the second previous household.18
Marie died on 18 Sep 1914 in Carondelet Twp., St. Louis Co., Missouri, at age 71.12,13 She was buried on 19 Sep 1914 in St. Lucas Cemetery, Sappington, Missouri.4
