     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., KansasG, in the household of his parents.11
     He appeared on the 1875 State Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., KansasG, in the household of his parents.12 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Timberhill Twp., Bourbon Co., Kansas, G in the household of his parents.13
     Walter attended Kansas Normal School, in Fort Scott. G.3 He graduated in Jun 1884 from the State University of Kansas at Lawrence, G now known as the University of Kansas. He graduated with high honors, before he reached his 19th year.14,15,16
     After college he went to work for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad, becoming assistant to the advertising agent.17,18
     He later became assistant managing editor for the Topeka Commonwealth. That newspaper consolidated with The Topeka Daily Capital in 1888, and Walter moved to Florida for his health.3,19
     In the spring of 1889 he returned from Florida, and took a position at the St. Louis Republic in St. Louis, MissouriG. He then moved to the Globe-Democrat in the same city.3
     On 6 Oct 1889 he reported sick at work, and grew weaker. In early November he went to the Santa Rosa Infirmary in San Antonio, TexasG, for treatment of his consumption (tuberculosis.)20,21
     Walter died on 3 Dec 1889 in San Antonio, TexasG, at age ~25.7,8 He was buried on 6 Dec 1889 in Mapleton, KansasG.9
