He claimed that "All went well until my wife's brother came to live in our home," and that brother lived had lived in the family for eight or nine years and contributed nothing to support the family. He also claimed when they married in 1905 (it was actually 1903) he had $10,000, several lots in Topeka, and an 80-acre farm in Reno Co. He asked for a divorce and that his wife be barred from claiming an interest in the property.
21,22 However, Judge G. H. Whitcomb found Martin at fault, and on 24 Apr 1915 assessed the costs to him and granted the divorce to Maud.
