William H. Hamlett was born in May 1845 in Caswell Co., North CarolinaG.4,5,6
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Person Co., North CarolinaG, in the household of his parents, Robert Hamlett and Mary.10
     William married Margarett J. Stanley, daughter of Isaac Stanley and Margarette Flora, on 8 Dec 1869 in Halifax Co., VirginiaG.7,8,9
     William and Margarett appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 24 Jun 1880. Their children Mary, Maggie, George, and William were listed as living with them, as were his mother and her mother.3
     William and Margarett appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia G, enumerated 5 Jun 1900, reporting that they were renting their home.11
     He was a farmer in 1880, and a farm laborer by 1900.3,11
