Elmer Culver1,2,3

Parents:

FatherRobert E. Culver (18 Jan 1860 - 30 Aug 1937)
MotherSarah Hemlock
Chart MembershipDescendants of Jacob K. and Christiana Ohl Riegel

Key Events:

Birth: 22 Sep 1888, Lehman Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania,4,5,6
Marriage: 12 Oct 1910, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, Olive Blanch Souder (b. 7 Aug 1893, d. 25 Jan 1935)7,8,9
Death: 29 Sep 1920, Nanticoke, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania,10,9
Burial: 1 Oct 1920, Shickshinny,11

Narrative:

Elmer Culver was born on 22 Sep 1888 in Lehman Twp., Luzerne Co., PennsylvaniaG.4,5,6
Elmer appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lehman Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania G, enumerated 23 Apr 1910, in the household of Clarance D. Thomas, a blacksmith, and his family, where he was serving as an apprenice.12
Elmer married Olive Blanch Souder, daughter of Joseph Souder and Sarah E. Reigle, on 12 Oct 1910 in Luzerne Co., PennsylvaniaG, with A. A. Nicholson, justice at Harveyville officiating, after receiving the consent of her mother because she was a minor.7,8,9
Elmer registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living on Union St., Shickshinny, PennsylvaniaG, reporting he was employed as a coal miner for E. S. Stockhouse Coal Co., in Shickshinny.2
Elmer and Olive appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Luzerne, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at 492 Vaughn G, enumerated 17 Jan 1920, reporting that they were renting their home. Their children Pauline, Glenn, Inez, Harry, and Alvin were listed as living with them.3

Elmer died on 29 Sep 1920 in Nanticoke, Luzerne Co., PennsylvaniaG, at age 32, of typhoid fever.10,9 He was buried on 1 Oct 1920 in ShickshinnyG.11
Research Note, 31 Dec 2014:

It seems probable, but unproven, that the Robert Culver who was Elmer's father was the son of Lyman and Mary (Zimmerman) Culver, known as Ephraim as a child and when he married Sarah Reigle in 1918, and as Robert Culver when he was with her in the 1920 census, and when he died in 1937. It seems very likely, but remains unproven, that he was the same Robert Culver who married Sarah Hines in 1893, and the Robert E. Culver divorced by Sarah Culver in 1914. He is the only Robert Culver known to have lived in ShickshinnyG during his lifetime. He is shown as such here.
But if so, it is less clear whether the boy's mother, known as Sarah Thomas, was Robert's wife, Sarah Hines, so they are not shown here as the same person.

Children:
      Children with Olive Blanch Souder

The birth dates of Elmer and Olive's children have been collected from various sources each appearing to be credible, but one or more of them is obviously in error.
