11 Friedrich and Marie moved by 1862 to the Kuhlmann farm, where he was a Brinksitzer. The term "Brink-Sitzer" comes from "Brink" - a village outskirt where cattle grazed and "Sitzer" - from "resident there." Brinksitzer were usually rather poor farmers with little or no land. Their land was usually rented and located on the outskirts of the village.
