     His father died in 1911, when Leland was about 5 years old.^14,15 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Ashland, Jackson Co., Oregon G, in the household of his mother.¹⁶
     Leland married Juanita Ala Reigel, daughter of Ralph Orzben Reigel and Edith Jennie Roberts, on 22 Jun 1929.^7,8,9
     Leland and Juanita appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Ashland, Jackson Co., Oregon, at 763 (rear) B St. G, enumerated 3 Apr 1930, reporting that the family rented it's home for $4 per month, and owned a radio. They lived in the rear of the home owned by his mother.¹⁷
     He was a cook in a hotel in 1930. In 1940 he was a cement helper working on street construction under an emergency work program. That year he reported he had worked 35 hours the last week of March, and had worked 46 weeks the prior year, earning $660. He reported he had been without regular employment for 67 weeks.^17,18

Five of their children were listed as living with them, as were his mother, and his brother George.¹⁹
