     Jacob purchased household items totaling $41 at the sale of his wife's father's estate on 5 Nov 1839.10
     Jacob and Catherine appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 26 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $8000. Their children Warren, Sally and Maria were listed as living with them, There were 15 slaves listed as well.3,11
     Jacob and Catherine appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Danville, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 6 Sep 1860, reporting real estate valued at $17,000 and personal estate of $15,000. Their children Sally and Maria were listed as living with them, as are Elizabeth Mechany, age 20, Venetia C. Davis, age 19, Clifton E. Davis, age 17, Federick C. Davis, age 14, and Mary N. Davis, age 12. They would appear to nieces and nephews. Also listed are 17 slaves owned by him, and 24 slaves he is holding for the heirs of John F. U. Davis.12,13
