Narrative:

Benjamin Harrison Logan
Benjamin Harrison Logan was born on 10 May 1846 in Tennessee, or possibly in Kentucy.7,8,9 There is confusion about the location of Benjamin's birth. The family lived in Shelby Co., in northern Kentucky, and in the 1850 census he is reported as being born in that state. But in 1860 and 1870 he was living with his mother, and is reported as being born in Tennessee, as he reported in 1880. Since his mother was from Tennessee, it seems possible she returned to her family for his birth, but both her parents were already dead.16,17,18,19,20
He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Shelby Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, Benjamin Harrison Logan and Martha Ann Rebecca Williamson.21,22
His father died on 7 Dec 1858, when Benjamin was 12 years old.23,24,25
Benjamin appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Simpsonville, Shelby Co., Kentucky, in the household of his mother.26,27 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Simpsonville, Shelby Co., Kentucky, in the household of his mother, reporting $1500 in personal property.28
Benjamin married Sallie Watson Barker, daughter of Chiles Terrell Barker and Mary Louisa Hutchison, on 29 Oct 1872.10,11,12

Benjamin and Sallie appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Shelbyville, Shelby Co., Kentucky, enumerated 2 Jun 1880.. Their children Elizabeth and Mary were listed as living with them, The household also included six Black servants. They were Anna Freeman, age 35, a cook, and her 9 year old son Richard; Francis Davis, age 15, a nurse; and three farm hands - John Divine, age 25, Bill Muphy, age 26, and Spemcer Black, age 23. Anna also had three younger children in the household, Clara, age 9, America, age 4, and Lucy, age 2.29
Benjamin was a farmer. By the age of 24 he apparently was operating the farm owned by his widowed mother, and that may well have been were he continued to farm after her death.30,29
Benjamin died on 4 Sep 1888 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, at age 42.7,13,14 He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the Logan family plot.15
