     Hiram P Stage was born about 1826 in Indiana.4,5,6
     Hiram enrolled in Co. C, 4th Indiana Infantry, as a private 28 May 1847, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He served while the regiment was engaged in the war with Mexico. He was discharged 32 Aug 1847.13
     Hiram married Sophronia S. Cobb, daughter of Willard Burr Cobb and Submit S. Garlinghouse, on 4 Jul 1849 in Ripley Co., Indiana.7,8
     He was a wagon maker.14,15,16,17
     Hiram and Sophronia appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 24 Aug 1850, reporting no real estate. Thomas Stage, likely his brother, age 17 and also a wagon maker, was listed as living with them.2
     Hiram and Sophronia appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Brown Twp., Ripley Co., Indiana, enumerated 12 Jul 1860, reporting real estate valued at $600 and personal estate of $300.3
     Hiram enrolled in Co. I, 68th Indiana Infantry, as a corporal, 8 Aug 1862, in Sardinia, Indiana.18,19 The regiment left Indiana for Louisville, Kentucky, on 20 Aug 1862, and subsequently moved to Munfordville, Kentucky, where the regiment was involved in the Siege of Munfordville from 14-17 Sep. The regiment was captured 17 Sep, but later paroled and sent to Indianapolis. It reorganized at Indianapolis until 25 Dec, and then moved back to Louisville, Kentucky. It went on duty at Murfreesboro, Tennessee from January to June 1863, and participated in various battles in April through June.20 He was promoted to sargeant 1 May 1863.21,22
     The regiment took part in the Passage of the Cumberland Mountains and Tennessee River, and the Chickamauga Campaign in August and September, and the Siege of Chattanooga in September through November. It operated in eastern Tennessee until April 1864, and then went on garrison duty at Chattanooga from April to September 1864. It moved to Tullahoma, then to Chattanooga and Decatur, Alabama, in October. It was on duty at Resaca, Georgia in November, then moved to Nashville, Tennessee where it was involved in the Battle of Nashville, 15-16 Dec and the Pursuit of Hood to the Tennessee River. It moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was on garrison duty there until Jun 1865, then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, on 16 Jun.20 He was mustered out 20 Jun 1865.23
     Hiram and Sophronia appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Franklin Twp., Putnam Co., Indiana, enumerated 14 Jun 1870, reporting no real or personal estate. Her sister Alice and Arthur R. Nailor, a minister, were listed as living with them.24
     Hiram applied for an invalid pension based on his Civil War service on 27 May 1880, which was subsequently approved.25
     Hiram and Sophronia appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Franklin, Putnam Co., Indiana, enumerated 17 Jun 1880.26
     Hiram died on 7 Jul 1895 in Zionsville, Indiana.9,10,11 He was buried in Zionsville Cemetery, Zionsville, Boone Co., Indiana.12
