William Gibson Wynn was born about 9 Mar 1840 in Jennings Co., Indiana.6,7,8He was probably the male under age 5 listed in the household of his father, Joseph Wynn, in the 1840 Federal Census of Franklin Co., Indiana.15
His mother died on 8 Feb 1847, when William was 6 years old.16
His father remarried 20 Jul 1848, to Sarah Nut.17,18 She died on 30 Apr 1850, when William was 10 years old.19
He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Brookville Twp., Franklin Co., Indiana, in the household of his father, Joseph Wynn.20
William was named an heir in the will of his father dated 30 Jun 1857 in Franklin Co., Indiana, in which he and three of his sisters was to receive a bed and bedding each to make the equal to their older siblings. He was also to receive a blazed face two-year-old filly, but was not to part with or sell it without the consent of his uncle before he was 21 years old. The executor, his uncle, was to purchase a saddle and bridle for him. The executor was to purchase a house and lot in Decatur Co. for the use of his father's third wife during her lifetime, then sold with the proceeds to be distributed in equal shares to William and his nine siblings. He was also to sell all the personal and real property, investing the proceeds until the youngest child reached the age of 21, then distribute it to them.21
His father died on 9 Aug 1857, when William was 17 years old.22
William appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Brookville Twp., Franklin Co., Indiana, enumerated 8 Jun 1860, in the household of Thomas J. Cummons, a 22-year-old farmer, and his wife. William reported no occupation, but did report personal estate of $300.23

William enrolled as a private in Co. I, 68th Indiana Infantry, 8 Aug 1862, at Sardinia, Indiana.24,25
The regiment left Indiana for Louisville, Kentucky, on 20 Aug 1862, and subsequently moved to Munfordville, Kentucky, where it was involved in the Siege of Munfordville from 14-17 Sep. The regiment was captured 17 Sep, but later paroled and sent to Indianapolis. It reorganized at Indianapolis until 25 Dec, and then moved back to Louisville, Kentucky. It went on duty at Murfreesboro, Tennessee from January to June 1863, and participated in various battles in April through June.26
William was discharged 5 Aug 1863, from a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.27

William married Marietta Eliza Cobb, daughter of Willard Burr Cobb and Submit S. Garlinghouse, on 22 Apr 1865 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Nixon Stewart officiating.9,10
William and Marietta settled in Illinois after their marriage. They appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Jonathan Creek, Moultrie Co., Illinois, enumerated 26 Jul 1870, reporting no real estate but personal estate of $325. Their children Franklin and Samuel were listed as living with them.3
William and Marietta returned to Indiana about 1873.
William applied for an invalid pension based on his Civil War service on 23 Sep 1875, but it was apparently not approved for many years.30
William and Marietta appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Clifty Twp., Bartholomew Co., Indiana, enumerated 14 Jun 1880. Their children Franklin, Samuel, Margaret, Ida and Eva were listed as living with them, as was Hannah Clark, a servant.31
William and Marietta moved to Lebanon about 1884.32 They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Center Twp., Boone Co., Indiana, at 511 Jennison St., enumerated 12 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage.33
He was a hack man, an operator of a carriage for hire, or taxi service, by 1900.34
His Civil War pension was approved 18 Dec 1902, effective 27 Aug 1902, for $12 per month. It was increased to $14 in 1808, to $17 in 1910, to $24 in 1912, to $32 in 1918, and to $50 in 1920.35
William had returned to farming by 1910.36
William and Marietta appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Center Twp., Boone Co., Indiana, enumerated 28 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their farm, free of mortgage.37
His wife died on 26 Oct 1918 in 309 W. Dicks St., Lebanon, Boone Co., Indiana.38,39
William appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Wayne Twp., Marion Co., Indiana, in the household of his daughter Ida and her husband, Eva E. Burns.40
William died on 31 Oct 1920 in Lebannon, Indiana.11,12,13 He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Boone Co., Indiana.14
