Charles Leo Baumgartner was born on 24 Sep 1901 in South Bend, Indiana.9,10,11He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of South Bend, Saint Joseph Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents, John H. Baumgartner and Emma H. Kuhlman.4 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of South Bend, St Joseph Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.5
Charles married Mary Louise Taylor, daughter of Warren Filer Taylor and Mary E. Riland, on 27 Nov 1926 in South Bend, Indiana.12,13,14
Charles and Mary appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of South Bend, St Joseph Co., Indiana, at 1318 South St.., enumerated 4 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $7,000, and did not own a radio. Their children Frederick and Mary were listed as living with them.17
He went to work for Standard Oil Company about 1926. He was a stock clerk their by 1930, and by 1940, a salesman, when he reported he had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning $2,280. He retired in 1957, after 31 years of service.18,19,20

After retiring from Standard Oil, he worked for W.A.R. Equipment Company, retiring there in 1967.22
Charles died on 17 May 1970 in South Bend, Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 68.15,16 He was buried on 20 May 1970 in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana.1
